    Portland Timbers Youth Soccer

The Portland Timbers have to have a DA program but nothing more. It looks like they are making a major push into youth soccer.

    1. They are the boys ODP, at least for now I am unclear about the contact with OYSA.
    2. Have mentioned ODP or some type of girls program
    3. Have the regional training centers
    4. Three youth clubs, eastside, westside, and vancouver have joined the Timbers
    5. Rumor from OYSA is that the Timbers might register US Club players in the OPL, one can only assume to upcharge the player fee to fund ODP as OYSA did.

Do we really want the Portland Timbers in the business of running Oregon Youth Soccer. Lets face it, a coaching and managment charge is probably not to far off. It is just pro sports, it they go 1-5 to start the season, we shall see.

Then there will be a new focus from the new management team. Just a thought but maybe the Timbers should focus on their MLS and DA teams and let youth soccer figure the youth side. I think they are just complicating the matter and playing both sides of the fence.

1-2. Portland Timbers will run both boys and girls ODP Programs....
There are programs like this sprouting up with all MLS Teams....
Both Boys and Girls will have the opportunity to play other ODP and MLS affiliated teams through travel...and yes...this is includes the girls...

    3. There will be RTC's (Regional Training Centers)....

    4. Yes...there are three affiliated clubs, VUSA, EASTSIDE and WSM...all fall under the same umbrella and will wear the same jersey's with a crest on their shirt that says Timbers Alliance...

    5. There are no plans for upcharging.....

Should be fun to watch the soccer change here in Oregon. I think starting at the U11 age and younger, majority of players, both boys and girls, will be heading to the clubs aligned with the Timbers. Especially when the vision for both genders will be clearer. It makes sense to me, especially if I have a 8 or 9 year old, I would definitely choose that path. The question becomes how are the other clubs changing and adjusting to the changing scenery? When all the high caliber players heading towards Timbers, I feel the other clubs becoming more like recreational, mask as competitive soccer.

After hearing from both Erik and Mike the vision for the girls program was clear. They aren't very interested in it. They will head up ODP for the money but will not put a lot of time or money in the girls. Heading to WSM or ESUFC if you have a daughter is fine but don't expect any great results. Those clubs have always been strictly boys clubs and that will only be worse now. VUSA will be a great place if you have a daughter but that was true way before the Timbers Alliance. If you have a daughter look at FC or THUSC and OSSA once she's U15 and above.

The Timbers are great for the boys but not for girls. It's a business and the money will go to what they need the most................ boys!

VUSA will be training at the new Delta Park Fields starting this coming fall. It is centrally located and all will be welcome!

As far as your conversations with Erik and Mike....I suggest you revisit that...changes have been made....there will be a full fledged girls program rolling come August...it will be very organized and the committment level is off the charts. This is rightfully so being that girls soccer in the PDX is very strong especially at the youth ages

The conversation I had with them was recently at the girls ODP training. The Timbers will take over the girls ODP but the affliation with the clubs will not benefit the girls at all. Any girl from any club can try out for ODP just as before and let's be real, girls will get much more development from FC, OSSA, or THUSC then they will at WSM or ESUFC.

Mike and Erik stated that the Timbers will take over the girls ODP in August. I don't think that is a shock to anyone. I think it's great for the girls but to say that the girls will flock to WSM and ESUFC is just ridiculous. There is no reason to go there unless you really want to finacially support the boys.

ODP is not affliated with any club and is it's own thing.

you obviously have not heard from either Erik or Mike.. your post is laughable but you're free to believe yourself. the good old days of club soccer in Oregon is changing, whether you like it or not.

Just to debunk what you are saying....I just got off the phone with Erik...this is not the case...the girls side is in full swing and could potentially end up bigger than the boys side.

I'm not quite understanding why you would come on here and make things up...I'm guessing that you and your child did not end up a part of this whole alliance deal. Either you are pissed your club wasn't included or you just don't agree with the consolidation process.

What happens to the affiliated clubs when the Timbers are no longer sponsored by Adidas but Nike? We all know the three clubs selected were because of the sponsorship, but not all three are of the best quality.

Your fantasy world is not helpful in the reality of youth soccer. If it has the potential for girl's soccer to become bigger than the boys side, it also has the potential of being a whole lot worse. Given who is running it, my wild guess is the latter. Why would you post such a ridiculous thing when not only are the details not available, but the implementation has not happened? I've got a bridge cheap, too.

                        Adidas Contract?

Interesting question ..... Isn't the Adidas contract for 5 years? One thing for sure ... The first thing that THUSC will be required to do is find a new DOC if they want anything to do with the Timbers. TA's credibility is zero with the Timbers brass. [i have no intention of derailing the conversation - just stating a fact]

                          1) All of MLS is Adidas and staying for quite an extensive contract

                          2) These clubs would change with the MLS

                          3) These clubs (WSM and ESUFC) have the best track record, in terms of consistency and potential in the area. They are also based out of 2 of the largest athletic talent pools in Oregon.

Let's face it, just like most other states with a solid MLS team and DA, Oregon soccer is now Timber soccer. Not sure why people are trying to fight it. Most DOCs knew this before the Timbers (MLS) even came here. This is nothing new. Infact, this needs to happen.

Everybody preaches about "unified" soccer. Well, it's finally on its way and now the same people that want it unified are fighting it.

If you believe so heavily in your club and want your club to be outstanding. Stop bickering about it here and do something about it. Get your business involved in supporting your club, get your community involved. If you care so much, let your actions show it. Your post means nothing unless you've done something beyond talk about it.

TA has no interaction of consequence with the Timbers "brass". Why would he? Why would he need to interact with them? They already have certified previous youth club losers in Rilatt and Gavin. Then they have Erik in ODP. Do you realize that many, many boys will not want to associate themselves with DA? Do you even know why?
