    Best girls club at U15-18

I remember coaches from FC Portland years ago stating that it doesn't matter how well you do at U11-14 it is more important at the older ages.

Looking at the U15, 16, 17 and U18 team records it seems that FC Portland and OSSA are the most consistent across the board. I know many will say, "wait until State Cup" but is State Cup the best measure or is league?

    FC U15 1st place
    FC U16 2nd place
    FC U17 3rd place
    FC U18 1st place

    OSSA U15 2nd place, 3rd place
    OSSA U16 1st place
    OSSA U17 3rd place
    OSSA U18 1st place

    ESUFC U15 4th place
    ESUFC U16 4th place
    ESUFC U17 11th place
    ESUFC U18 no team

    THUSC U15 5th place
    THUSC U16 3rd place
    THUSC U17 1st place
    THUSC U18 no team

Well you're obviously a FC parent so why not just trust what your club tells you. I believe it is about developing so it does matter how you are doing at U11-U14. Not saying that is measured by winning but if the team knows how to play correctly and can travel out of state and do well that will pay off by the time you're U15.

Interest bit of info.... assuming the last post was right the U17's finished 2nd not 3rd at FC, even better.

Looking back at fall results and 2011 results it would appear FC PDX did fairly well at the U14 and down and has a pretty successful boys program.

          Good for them.

But I have heard it's not cheap.... due to lot's of traveling. If my daughter was more into soccer long term, might look into it.

Have we all forgot what two coaches at FC got sentenced for??????? Now, why is that? Because there is no-one there who gives a S***!!!! If you let your daughter play there, you must be crazy. Their coaches are poor and the connection with UP is a hindrance, on every level.

The travel is not what is cn costing the parents. It's just more expensive period. A lot of other clubs travel more than FC Portland.

Most successful girls club is currently THUSC and boys is WSM.

Could you provide the measurement of the above success by age group / gender. The other poster provided a measurement that could be verified. Not saying it is the end all measurement but better to have some measurement than none.

My daughter played U-10 through U-18 for good clubs and teams. She plays in college now. The top girls clubs in the high school age bracket have been THUSC and Lake Oswego (OSSA). FC PDX has done ok, but are not up to the first two. FC PDX was the absolute top girls club in the past, but it's a too distant past. I know FC PDX says they just develop girls prior to high school, but that's a red herring. If you tell parents not to expect winners, they will be more satisfied than if you told them the truth, FC PDX tries as hard as any club to win at the younger ages. And why wouldn't they win if they have good training and coaching? Just look over the past few classes, 2010, 2011, 2012, ( high school graduation years). It will tell you who is and who isn't getting the job done. I'm referring to ODP Regional teams, state cup wins (better when they were all together with OYSA), and colleges attending with NLI's signed. With the way OPL/OYSA has been this and last years, I'm not sure what league standing tell you anymore.

Here's my shot at some kind of logical analysis. I have data for all ages / genders but as this thread is specifically for GU15-18...

If you look at the clubs that have teams in the top divisions (OPL Premier and RCL 1) and give points like this (based on the most recent fall/winter seasons):

1 pt for any team in a top division
1 additional pt for any team finished top 4 (picked because most groups have 8 teams)
1 additional pt for any team that won the division

you get (for GU15-U18 only) in order:

                    1st - Eastside FC - 13 pts
                    2nd - Oswego Southside Soccer Academy - 11 pts
                    3rd - FC Portland - 9 pts
                    4th - NW Nationals - 8 pts
                    5th - East Side United - 5 pts
                    5th - Vancouver United - 5 pts
                    5th - Whatcom FC - 5 pts
                    5th - Tualatin Hills United SC - 5 pts
                    9th - Crossfire - 4 pts
                    9th - Greater Renton FC - 4 pts

Not sure how much Crossfire and Washington Premier's totals are affected by having ECNL teams but there must be some impact. Also, OPL GU18 standings are not totally complete yet as there are some outstanding scores that may affect the standings.

The training fees are relatively the same between FC Portland and THUSC.

The way FC travels is more expensive then other clubs. They have a stupid policy about players not being able to travel with their family. It may not be a big deal in the older age group since they travel on their own any way, but in the younger age groups parents usually attend so the travel cost per family doubles.

Some of the other clubs do fundraisers. I am not sure if this goes to the entire age group to subsidize overall costs or a few scholarship players. Most of the fundraisers as FC Portland seem to go scholarship. I am not a huge fan of this either.

It would appear that more statistical posts blow your 'opinion' out of the water. But I'm sure the FC club appreciates you're acknowledgement of their being "the absolute top girls club in the past", however, the stats by other posters, that only show the GU15-18 ages would disagree with you. They look pretty solid. In addition, looking at last years OPL standings FC did pretty well and are doing very well at the younger age brackets this year and last (only stats I'm privy to are from the OPL website). Not to mention they have very solid D1 teams, (THUSC B teams are doing horrible). Then you drone on about college signings and THUSC didn't have a single one this year... they don't even have a U18 team... premier or otherwise. From other threads it appears FC tossed another double digit girls college signing this year (no idea on numbers of smaller colleges). Now with that said...... OSSA looks very solid as well. Time to go look up data on them.

I think maybe you are living in the past. Enjoy the memories.

This is interesting... I can see both sides to this. It would be cheaper and more convenient to travel with the family. But I can see the clubs point of view, that they would want to know how many girls will be at the match / tourney and having them straggle in willy nilly, could be aggravating.

Is this at the younger (U11-U12) age groups as well? Interesting.
