What is merrit up to? Field expansion?

Last night at the Timbers preseason game vs San Jose I noticed a few things:

First, the entire seating arrangement for the ARMY was uncovered.

Second, some south deck seating was added.

THIRD, IT LOOKED LIKE a portion of THE MAC CLUB WAS ABOUT TO GET BLOWN UP. I couldn't help but notice the scaffolding on the structure by the MAC side. IS MERRIT GOING TO GET RID OF IT IN ORDER TO FINISH THE BOWL IN JELD WEN!!!! IF SO HOW MANY SEATS?

Merritt would do something like that. He wants to make the Timbers into a "Premier Club" so he is going to do whatever he can to make that happen. Expansion would be pretty cool, then you could make the entire north side all army and just relocate the Burgerville section etc...

I noticed the MAC construction too. It looked more like they were adding onto the MAC to me? It appeared that they were building out around the light pole and extending the outside deck (i.e. more MAC seating for Timbers events).

I'm curious to see how they build it if they are expanding. It looks awful already.... why would they extend the boxy terrace even more. Bowl up the stadium and pack in the fans!

It's A Minor Addition

It's covering the terrace to make more room for exercise equipment. That's it. MAC isn't going anywhere. I think part of stadium is already on land leased from MAC. MAC used to own the stadium and grounds. I suspect there are a fair number of deed restrictions protecting the club.

I'm going to take a closer look tomorrow night. My memory only seems to last hours anymore but it appeared that the expansion could not only accomplish more room for the exercise area but is conveniently able to extend the viewing area as well. Good on 'em if that's the case.

It does look like the MAC viewing deck is getting stripped down. MAC has to be making more seats for Timbers games. I wonder how many if so?

It doesn't have anything to do with Timbers. It will result in less room for Timbers viewing not more but there will be more room for spin classes. It's the same deck that was there before. It's getting a cover. That's it. On the plus side, it will be covered.
