Timbers and the future of girls soccer in Oregon

"Additionally, the Timbers have future plans to form an elite girls division as part of the Oregon’s ODP program and the club’s academy structure."

This is a quote from the press release last week from the Timbers. This is the big announcement for the girls side. It was at the end of the press release like a after thought. Nothing solid just future plans not even a year for these plans. Good or bad I don't think our daughters playing now will see any of these "future plans".

This could be great for younger girls but too late for my DD. ECNL is proven and could be soon if THUSC gets the bid!

I don't know what that poster knows but I will also add that no Oregon team will get an ECNL bid anytime soon. Oregon doesn't have a club that is strong enough on the girls side....they look at not only what you have produced but also what is coming up your pipeline and right now the GU-10 and GU-11's at THUSC are not anywhere up to par.
Crossfire beat them in NWCL 2-0 with 6 GU-10 playups. VUSA GU-11's beat them 4-1 and 3-0 respectively. They do have a good GU-13 group coming through.....you can't have bits and pieces....you have to have the whole package.

+1 to the previous post..... Don't get me wrong they have a couple of great teams, but as a club... from top to bottom way to inconsistent.

Love how people on here already know whats going to happen. I had no idea so many parents were on the board for the ECNL. Way to think positive people! One has to assume that the negative comments are coming from WSM and ESUFC who are scared to lose their girls to THUSC if they get ECNL. Who will be left to pay for all the scholarship boys?

Well, the poster has some experience with ECNL, more than anyone else on this board, and knows what it takes to get in ECNL having been there recently. Does not experience count for something? I know ya'll are really hopeful and I understand that hope. But reality needs to set in. Being the big fish in a small pond limits our (me included) understanding of the level of soccer in the rest of the nation, to which we must compare ourselves to. It ain't happenin'.

Interesting how you chose Westside & Eastside Timbers when in reality if THUSC gets ECNL it's FC Portland that stands to lose the most (maybe).

WSM & ESUFC have the Timbers affiliation. THUSC maybe the front runner for ECNL .... and FC Portland has ???

So negative at times. Thusc does need to build stronger teams across the age groups. Do you not think that will happen if they get ecnl? My take is that many girls will want to tryout for a chance to play ecnl. The problem of having stronger teams will solve itself if they get the bid to ecnl. So not sure why all the negative talk is happening over this subject, but the girls need to have something like this as an option. No, I do not think the timbers academy for girls will do much if anything at all to help further girls soccer. To say you know what is going to happen is just crazy, you are just guessing, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it happens. If and when ecnl comes to town the better it will be for all. I also believe that oregon can compete with top level competition.

                              your optimism is admirable!
However, the ECNL Board doesn't base their decision on what "could happen if ECNL Bid is given to any club.
