We travel to play so definitely not location. We also believe you make new friends wherever you go and that does not mean you loose your old friends. For us we asked around a lot and then went and talked to the clubs we were interested in. We talked to the age group coach and then to the doc. Go and ask to practice a little in the spring and get a feel for the coaching and other kids on the team. The best advice is do your own homework. Talk direct to the people that will be influencing your child. Oh yeah and then be prepared to be accused of being recruited even though you were the one that reached out.

Coaches definitely. You can always find a field to play on and kids are good at making new friends but really good coaches are not that common.

            Priority

            1) Coaches
            2) Private Training
            3) Team
            4) Club
            5) Distance

            1) I'm kinda simplistic. These kids at U12 are very much developing and to me the #1 need is great coaching.
            2) A great coach still has 14-16 other kids to train. It's impossible to fucus 100% on my kids individual skill development needs. PT allows us to move from team coaching to individual specific.
            3) It's important to have a strong team of like caliber players so that practices and games are productive. Yes yes yes fun too that's always important at this age.
            4) To me clubs are responsible for providing a good environment. Such as coaching support / quality facilities / quality leagues to play in / and additional quality training opportunities
            5) Proximity is convenient but is never the deciding factor. (with in reason. I'm not going to Seattle)

              Week Three Predictions

              Sat.

Southside over Valley Futbol, 2-1 (VFC showed they can hang with Div 1 teams)
Eastside over BSC, 1-0 (because all of Eastside's games end up 1-0, win or lose)
Lake Oswego over FC Navy, 3-2 (LO finally breaks through!)
WSM over Pacific, 3-1(WSM has been impressive thus far)
Rush over FC White, 4-1 (we'll find out if Rush can dominate Div 1 next Fall)

              Sun.

Rush over Pacific, 3-1 (does Rush really belong in Div 1?)
Lake Oswego over BSC, 3-1 (BSC is surprised by how big those Laker girls are!)
Eastside over VFC, 2-0 (Eastside gets another confidence booster)
FC Navy over Southside, 4-0 (FC "methodically" dismantles the SS defense)

My WSM over EMFC "upset special" last week didn't happen, but the Metros did give Athletica quite a scare, so I'm claiming partial credit on that one. LO over Navy is about as far as I'm willing to go out on a limb this week. Good luck everyone!

I believed it last year and will until proven wrong, that the top Division 1 teams are as good or better than the lower premier teams in GU-12. Bridlemile will handle Eastside and Pacific will surprise Bend.

Quite a scare indeed! Instead of 8-1 the final was only 2-1 with 90% possession by Eugene!

The competition in the OPL is astounding............FC Portland "methodically" beating a SS team that would lose to a U-11 Clackamas team. Great Job TOP IN OREGON!

                            Yes a 2 - 0 and a 2 - 1 win over a mediocre D1 team and a 2-0 win over a D2 team...In spring league no less. Very dominating and well worth bragging about.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

I'm not from WSM but I see nothing wrong with a little excitement for your kid's team. WSM has been improving and that is what we should celebrate and be excited about. Are they going to win State Cup...I seriously doubt it but they did well to keep their game vs. Eugene a close 1-2 last week and a win is still a win today.

                                Lake Oswego vs FC

A great matchup! Spirit came out swinging, controlling most of the 1st half and getting a goal that gave them a 1-0 lead. FC battled back in the second half, controlling possession but where unable to get the ball across the goal line. Spirit wins 1-0

Great game, perhaps a preview of the State Cup finals!
