I am a board member from one of the top clubs.

There is a financial reality here. If we are to provide a head coach, an assistant coach, a trainer, and keeper training, 14 or 15 paying players per team just work. I've seen the financials, trust me on this.

Why do you need assistant coaches? A single coach works just fine. Trust me, they do this in many other parts of the country. And who is this trainer of which you speak? I've never seen one at my kids practices. A coach with 14 kids should be fine financially with the money from one keeper per team going to support the keeper coach. The keeper coach should be training multiple kids with every session they have. Bloated overhead and fees which, in my opinion, are too low, is a big headwind for Oregon soccer. But hey, bloated overhead is what Oregon is all about it seems, just take a look at every government organization we have. The DMV had at least twice as many people working there then were needed the last time I was there.

Not sure what your saying? Sorry if I missed it. Are you saying that 14-15 players per team does work or does not pencil out financially?

If your comment is that a club needs more players than 14-15 there is a simple answer. Form another team. If you're saying there is not enough for another team and you must put more than 14-15 on a GU12 roster then I and many others won't be giving your club a single penny. We'll be joining another club.

Good luck with that. Hope you're happy with Division 1.

So this major club you have has no division 1 teams?

Don't think any of the top teams will care if you join or not and all of them carry over 15.

My U-12 daughter thrives on a 18 girl roster. Playing time is not guaranteed to anyone. Even the stars sit if they don't compete or miss practice. The 14-18 girls get thousands of touches in very high level competitive practices, and they work their butts off to earn more playing time. I would want no other way for my kid.

Ok, you've said the same thing in about 7 posts. No one is fooled into thinking you are 7 different posters. We get it, you like your situation. Cool. You'll realize the error in your thinking in a few years. Enjoy seeing her play those 15 minutes a game.

Believe what you like but there are at least 2 of us because I posted one, just one, of those.

I get the distinct feeling that your U12er is your oldest. If I'm correct you're still a newbie.
The first kid always suffers while the parents think they have it all figured out.
You will learn the hard way ... a roster of 18 is the club fleecing you. YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
Go ahead and argue that you're right .... just make sure you apologize to your DD when she's 15 and didn't get the call.
You're not the first and you won't be the last .... unfortunately.

Oh boy, that's got to be the ultimate insult on this board! You got him! Good one, bro, way to stick it to him! First time parent! Ha ha!

                            Thousand of touches per practice??

I don't know much about Eugene, but I have checked around with other clubs.

What you described is not going on at any of the top 4 clubs in the Portland area because we have been looking at playing options for next year.

                            Maybe in Vancouver.

Can you advise what club you are with?

Your attempt at sarcasim is pitiful. My comment was not meant as an insult but more as an observation that newbie parents think they have the answers only to find out they don't and the unfortunate casualty in all this is the first born.
I'll leave the insults to you.

My observations are that parents with older kids are quite condesending.

Because they have been thru something once or twice they automatically feel like they know everything. Reality is in many cases you do not and are quite annoying.

It is too bad that you messed up on your first born, but that doesn't mean everyone else has messed up on their first born.

Not sure who you are, but I am guessing one of the old parents on the sideline.
