I am guessing it will be several years before they could lure a healthy girls program back into the fold. I have no idea what goes on at WSM but they don't appear to be heavy on the girls side either. My guess is that the Timbers will simply run an ODP program for the girls and there will be no significant change.
Dont think the ODP is about $$$$. So by putting on the biggest program they can, doesnt that then generate those same funds. Even if it isnt the "best" program they could.

I would disagree with you here. They will put on a really BIG show for the girls, and those that rise to the top will be rewarded with playing time and exposure at key events.

      Nice VUSA Underwear ya stooge

You VUSA tools are so insecure it's laughable. You all are so punchdrunk in believing your club is so suprior it's actually sad. Take off your VUSA logo underwear and wash off your fake VUSA tattoo... You immediately jump to defend when the facts clearly show your boys program has declined. LOOK AT THE FACTS of your own club. You immediately jump to comparison as if this supports your cause. IT DOESN'T! All you've pointed out is that the Boys programs in SW WA are individually weak and spread too thin amongst all the clubs. THANK YOU FOR PROVING MY ORIGINAL POINT: The Timbers clearly need to look at the landscape over in SW WA because to align themselves with only one club is a mistake. VUSA IS NO LONGER A DOMINANT BOYS PROGRAM.
Anyone reading the facts presented can clerly see a program that is missing two age groups and has their first teams (reds) in the first and second divisions of the OPL and has NONE OF THEIR YOUNGER BOYS TEAMS IN THE RCL is no powerhouse of a boys club. To suggest otherwise is embarrasing and laughable. At least Vancouver Soccer Dad has the backbone to admit the obvious. Thank you VSD.

No where in my posts did I say that any other club in SW WA was better. I simply pointed out they've gained ground at VUSA's expense. Look at the numbers at the other clubs moron. They are holding on to their boys and developing from with in. No longer does VUSA have a corner on this market. VUSA is not top of mind anymore. The other clubs in SW WA are offering good development programs which were once the sole domain of VUSA. No longer.

Please continue arguing on this public forum. With every post your desperate and pathetic attempt to defend your boys program only shines a light on how much VUSA's boys program is on life support. This is fun .... keep it coming punk.

Have you seen VUSA from U-7 through U-11 right now?

VUSA is by far the superior club at these age groups....the future is VERY bright!

        Good things are happening....stay tuned.

NEWSFLASH: So are other clubs in SW WA!
I'm happy for you all but the world does not revolve around VUSA. You really need to stay away from the punch bowl.
Good things are happening all over SW WA! You are not superior just average.

Why would the Timbers waste their time on a girls program? In the long run it will not benefit them enough as the girls can't play for the Timbers. Timbers are looking for home grown talent and nothing more.

The Timbers might slap their name on the girls ODP program like they have in WA but nothing has changed there. All of the top talent still plays for their club and most of the top talent is on an ECNL team. I would imagine Oregon would be the same. My son is currently in the Timbers ODP and I can tell you that nothing has changed. Sure we'll get nicer jerseys but other than that it is still the same Oregon ODP. If the boys side hasn't changed much I highly doubt the girls will.

Timbers will attach their name to the girls program just to try to look good. I have a feeling they will get more out of it finacially then the girls will get developmentally.

This whole conversation is contrary to the laws of FIFA that will limit the timbers

I agree the Timbers focus on ODP is to try to grow some HomeGrown players. FIFA requires that for a player to ever be transferred for a transfer fee they must not have paid to play for the transferring organization.

This will limit the Timbers, and force at least an arms length relationship between them and these clubs.

Realistically this is another marketing attempt that will get thrown on the market to see if it sticks, and after some time will probably be ditched. Nothing will change with either Eastside or Westside.

If they are a club that attracts you now, maybe go that way, but i WOULD BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT FOLLOWING THEIR HYPE

exactly !! that was my point. i never said it would be better, possibly bigger though. it's all about $$$. MP is not into sports for the fun of it.

if the MLS or it's franchisees would gather together and create a league for the girls (even at the players expense like ODP), they might be able to run against types like the ECNL and attract colleges to take interest. This wont put any "transfer" money in their pocket, but it sure would create a demand to belong at the younger ages, thus creating a long term revenue stream and some hierarchy in youth soccer in our state.

the problem as I see with a local club getting an ECNL ticket, is just that, a local club and their politics. at least with the Timbers is they have No competition and are viewed as the top of the heap.

It's the same old ODP with different uniforms. No question about that. Exactly the same. Disappointing. I was expecting more.

here's how I see it for the boys:

                    * you pay to play rec (ran by club)
                    * you pay to play classic (ran by club)
                    * you pay to play ODP (ran by Timbers, but administered by designated clubs)
                    * you pay NOTHING to play in the DA. The step just before this is filled full of players hoping to make it to the next step, all the while paying more then their fair share so that the next level players DONT.

the girls just dont have the last step, except maybe an "elite" level that play in select tourneys and leagues regionally/internationally, but still paying to play

Until the "next level" (DA) is created and formed, nothing is going to change. Probably nothing ever will. ODP is what it is. Limited in season length and events traveled to.

What were you expecting ? Give examples and in depth thoughts.

                        Women's Professional Soccer

I completely disagree. The number of women soccer players in the US far out number the men due to the fact that male athletes have more options. Given this fact, and the deep pockets of the MLS owners, I have a reason a pro league should work. The Women's National team in the US is extremely popular. Plus you have a stadium already built in most markets. So the MLS should follow what the NBA did, by subsidizing a women's team in each market. The could play during the off season of even at same time.

                          Oregon girls better than that

[QUOTE=Unregistered; note: Divsion 3 RCL is like Division 1 OPL for girls.

You really have no idea of what you speak in regards to girls. I will say that the RCL is very competitive. Where the RCL has 7 or 8 very good teams in division 1, opl has 3 or 4 and that is based on population alone ( you know Washington has more people than Oregon). Check your facts before you make false statements. And do not go looking for one age group to try and prove your point. Both RCL and OPL division 1 have very good teams.

Lets look at Seattle vs. Vancouver I wonder who has more good teams? Does that make Vancouver suck? See the thing that bugs me about people like you is that you only want to see it one way (insert your a tool here) because that is what your clubs want you to think. When infact very good teams are found everywhere. Oregon girls can and do play with the best of them. Vancouver has a couple of good girls teams but not as many as Oregon does. So I guess you suck more. Go drink your kool aid and give it a rest!
