He played in the Premiership but making that distinction would be pointless. Kind of like the Datsun/Nissan post pointed out. You simply don't know what you're talking about. Bristol was in the first division from 1976 until 1980. Then they were relegated. You can look it up. But who cares? The A League has never been to MLS what the pre-1992 first division was to the EPL. Liverpool, ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham etc. were all the same in 1992 as they were in 1991--in the top league. Now there is the EPL and the Football League which is all the other professional teams. The top flight of the Football League is called the Championship. That's where relegated teams go, and promoted teams come from.

Regarding your comment that the pre EPL English first division was not successful, do you mean playing wise? If you're talking about European success in the 1970s and 80s for English soccer, clearly don't know much about English soccer. From 74 to 85, English first division teams were not just successful, they were dominant. In that time (the time we're talking about on this thread) English teams were in 9 European finals with 7 champions, including 6 years in a row from 1976 to 1981 (Liverpool three times but not in a row, Nottingham Forest twice and Villa). The reason English teams didn't win in Europe in the late 80s and early 90s is they weren't eligible for five years after the Heysel tragedy. That was when Liverpool supporters went out of control at a final and about 40 people died. The EPL was formed primarily for financial reasons-not competitive reasons. It's worked out very well both in improving the quality of the league, and making more money.
By your logic, we should also add MLS to his resume.

I don't care what league John played in.

I think he is a great coach and most people who know him seem to like him.

To me it is sad that someone wants to spend this much time to discredit John Bain.

Did he do something to you or your family ?

I just came on this conversation and I think its funny that every responds by saying "he's a good person." "I like him after talking with him". etc.....

Are you guys morons or just unethical. If my kids teacher said they taught at Harvard or in the Ivy leagues and to find out they didn't. I would question their integrity and truthfulness. Its amazing to think that some of you are so dense to say, "Oh he's a good person and don't write about him" when in all reality the point in dispute is the fact that he lied on his resume or the club did and its unethical either way. You have to put into perspective that many coaches might do it and the only way they get to opportunities they do is because they made up or lied. Its doesn't make it right it just makes it ok when you people justify it.

Obviously this is the same person who keeps bringing up the same thing over and over again. I don't even know John Bain and I am sick of the original poster making a big deal over this. Duh, like someone just happened upon this thread and asked if he played in the MLS. I second what the previous poster wrote...

Can we just end this thread please? It was dumb to begin with and we're only keeping it at the top of the page because we keep responding. I'm done. Hopefully my response will be the last.
