What in the world are you talking about? The point is the EPL is the successor to the old first division. That point isn't debatable. If it is, explain why Manchester United now boasts of winning 19 titles, besting Liverpool's 18. It's because titles from the first division and the EPL are considered the same-at least by those clubs. Who knows, maybe they know less than you too.

That is EXACTLY the point. John Bain did not play at the highest level. The English first division, at the time. The league was not successful at the time.

The EPL was CREATED. All other divisions still exist as they had in the past.

I am sorry but this seems like a pathetic if not somewhat desperate attempt to discredit a coach/club. Why not write to WSM and complain that their website is inaccurate? It won't be the only club to have poorly worded, exaggerated, outdated or just plain wrong information on their website.

Most, if not all of the clubs do what they can to maintain these websites but put very little effort into it.

IMHO the originator of this thread is a total loser with an axe to grind.

Actually, my daughter plays for FC Portland. We are not in any way affiliated with WSM. My experience with John has been thru the 4x4 tournament and asking him questions about WSM.

It is really sad that people like you are interested in flaming a good person like John thru this type of forum. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish. Hope you are teaching your kids a valuable life lesson by doing this.

I will explain this all to you one last time. It would be more like saying a player from 1992 to 2007 played in the EPL when he really didn't. He played in the Premiership but making that distinction would be pointless. Kind of like the Datsun/Nissan post pointed out. You simply don't know what you're talking about. Bristol was in the first division from 1976 until 1980. Then they were relegated. You can look it up. But who cares? The A League has never been to MLS what the pre-1992 first division was to the EPL. Liverpool, ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham etc. were all the same in 1992 as they were in 1991--in the top league. Now there is the EPL and the Football League which is all the other professional teams. The top flight of the Football League is called the Championship. That's where relegated teams go, and promoted teams come from.

Regarding your comment that the pre EPL English first division was not successful, do you mean playing wise? If you're talking about European success in the 1970s and 80s for English soccer, clearly don't know much about English soccer. From 74 to 85, English first division teams were not just successful, they were dominant. In that time (the time we're talking about on this thread) English teams were in 9 European finals with 7 champions, including 6 years in a row from 1976 to 1981 (Liverpool three times but not in a row, Nottingham Forest twice and Villa). The reason English teams didn't win in Europe in the late 80s and early 90s is they weren't eligible for five years after the Heysel tragedy. That was when Liverpool supporters went out of control at a final and about 40 people died. The EPL was formed primarily for financial reasons-not competitive reasons. It's worked out very well both in improving the quality of the league, and making more money.
