    99 tryouts

They stacked the teams to make the Westside kids look better. If you have a couple of good players on the opposite side in the back line who never played together, it puts them at a big disadvantage as far as communicating. The Westside players were all up front and basically played to each other. It was truly a joke. Bain should be ashamed. Hopefully the Timbers reps can see this but I doubt because it they are Addidas all the way.

It's always been this way and until the coaches are not beholden to any club (s) it will always be this way. It's one of the perks of coaching ODP--you get to pick your own kids, train them up, and make your club look better, which attracts more kids to your club. It's the American way, no matter how may parents complain (was an issue when these guys were with OYSA, still an issue though they are OPL).

What will change it is having a third party do the selection who does not know the kids already or have an agenda. Maybe the eventual Timbers Academy and ODP system will look less like it is now.

"The American Way". Don't be an ass. If you think it's different elsewhere (I have seen tryouts in two other countries). Then you as silly as you sound.

Don't be an ass?! You are actually the one who sounds silly. I am not the poster you call an ass, however will say you must have watched soccer try-outs in some pretty crap ass countries to be saying they do it the same as the USA.

To not have skill drills, small sided drills and scrimmaging, technical drills and full sided scrimmaging is completely a USA ass thing to do. You will never find this mentality in Japan, Brazil, Spain, or even Mexico.

To have coaching staff as small world as here in the USA will only happen here, in the USA. Where having an English accent will get you a coaching job and being Spanish means you must know how to play and coach. Flipping joke.

I would love to hear your story about tryouts in other countries. Please tell us where, how they were structured and any other interesting notes about them. Were they a better alternative, or was it pretty much like it is here?

            Thanks.

If you are talking about the ODP tryouts ... yes (not girls).
If you are talking about the folks posting ... yes (not men).

COMPLETELY AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know a few about soccer across the pond and its evident to see why US soccer keeps taking steps backward.

Now, Oregon ODP is a little boys club. Its literally a joke. If you are from Westside or have smootched ridiculous coaches like Sparza, you get rediculous coaches like Reese who have no business coaching this age. Find out what team they have "developed" and that will tell you they are NOT qualified.

When Oregon ODP gets its act together and actually thinks they do right by the wee ones they will take a page from coaches and programs that are RUN by soccer people and real coaches.

You clearly know everything so that means there are at least these possibilities:

                    1. It's an opportunity for you to contribute by coaching or otherwise volunteering your time and expertise within the soccer community.

                    2. You're a disgruntled coach who hasn't convinced other coaches that you actually know everything or maybe anything.

                    3. You're a disgruntled parent.

                      :)

wouldnt you like to know. Or a co-coach who thinks they are awful.

Eastside ODP didn't have many kids tryout. I guess they took them all (18) ESUFC, NEU
Westside ODP had 50 or better and took (24). Mix of FC, WSM, L/O and WUSC

Jim Rilatt v. John Bain.... Looks like westside is going to have most of their kids rep the 98/99 ODP program.

                          Shocker

That way, Westside coaches can fit it in to thier schedules.
