    My initial impression

The teams listed in each division, as well as the numbers are different than what appears on the OPL website.

My initial thought is that Division 1 has a lot of good teams; should be some really good games and battles. It could be argued that Top 4-5 teams in Division 1 would give most of the Premier teams a very good game.

I like that all Premier dividions U12-U14 have 8 teams and I understand that all there will be 14 games so every team plays every other team twice. So no non-counting games, I assume?

I've heard/noticed LOSC Mambas Blue and NEU Fire lost some key players to other U14 premier teams (FC, WUSC, others). Did they pick up some solid replacements or will there be a clear division between top 4-5 teams vs. bottom 3-4 teams because of this?

My first thought when I see a list this big is placement. I know qualifying is shunned, and probably the top two divisions are well enough known that placement can happen pretty accurately, but below division 1, does OPL know enough about these teams to place them accurately? I wonder how accurate this seeding is. Am I correct only premier plays in OPL's statecup? So somewhat arbitrarily 30/38 teams will be eliminated?

It is exciting to see such a large group, but worrying as well.

There are not 38 teams, only 37! Much better. (hehe)

Last Spring, River Plate (Boca White) of the 1st Division made it the OPL State Cup quarter finals. So, unless the rules have changed since then the OPL State Cup is not limited to the Premier teams.

As I heard it from our director (because I asked!), every club DOC in the league has had the chance to review the divisions and request a different placement for their teams, if necessary; then they have a meeting and all of them more or less vote/certify the divisions. It's all the DOC's not just the 8 clubs, so they all see the placements and agree on them. No qualifying necessary.

There is not a standard for who is allowed to play in the State Cup - only Director's Cup (no Premier Teams), and if you are a First Division or lower team at U14 and below, you can play in both. My son's team did this last year, and it worked out great. Lots of fun for the boys.

                      BU14 Premier

I did not see any surprises the first week except the EMFC - OSA game in Eugene. It is too early to tell but the scores indicate most teams are fairly competitive with each other and not too many automatic wins. I thought EMFC would be right on the tail of ESUFC and WUSC for first place. Did they (like all U14 teams do) have a bad weekend or did something change from last spring? We play them this weekend, hope they are not out for revenge:)

Hoping it was just a bad weekend. Emfc added several solid players since last spring and lost none (a couple were moved to B team). EMFC out shot OSA about 15 (probably more) to 5 but OSA's keeper was awesome and their good forward converted his chances. Again, hoping it was just one of those days.

                          Standings after week1:

                          Eastside 6 pts
                          WUSC 6
                          OSA 6
                          WSM 4
                          FC 1
                          LO 0
                          NEU 0
                          Eugene 0

little surprising Eugene didn't get any points; but heared they are missing their main defender. Probably would have maind Eastside game closer.

                          Games this weekend:

                          SATURDAY:
OSA vs WUSC; WUSC wins but could be a close one; OSA has quality and if their keeper is playing well he could limit WUSC's attack

NEU vs FC; tie, NEU played a couple tough games last weekend and a game against FC will be no different. If they can score some goals against FC's defense (normally pretty good) then good chance for a win or tie. FC does not score a lot of goals; however they don't give up many either.

LO vs Eugene; Eugene gets some points. LO has some speed; but Eugene is scrappy and should get the win.

Eastside vs WSM; Eastside I could see a blowout. WSM can get into the attack but struggles to finish against good defensive teams; Eastside should outplay them.

                          SUNDAY:
WUSC vs Eastside; going to be a slugfest and could go either way. My first inclination is to say WUSC as they beat Eastside throughout the summer. However Eastside played split teams so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

FC vs Eugene; FC could get the win if they can score goals. They won't give up much and Eugene is not known to put up a lot of goals in a game.

WSM vs NEU; tie; actually it is a toss up and either team could get the win so I went with the tie. NEU can be a physical team and WSM sometimes struggles with physical side of the game. Though WSM has some good technical players so could be an interesting game to watch.

OSA vs LO; OSA wins; don't know what to write about this game. I think OSA is a better team then LO and therefore gets the win.

Why did it take OSA so long to post the scores after last weekend's games?

Wow little suprise there when i saw EMFC had 0 points. No suprise with Eastside or Williamte.
EMFC needs to get some points if they wanna stay in the race although its too early.
