Hmmm. 8 sophomores and 2 freshman listed on the roster I saw last week. Starting 2 freshman as forwards. 3 of the 4 defenders starting are sophomores. Experience-size-maturity does matter at some point doesn't it?

I'm guessing the previous poster was simply referencing the immense talent advantage Jesuit has over other schools. If Jesuit is playing that many underclassmen, they've got to be pretty talented to beat out the upperclassmen. Experience-size-maturity does factor in somewhat but only as a backseat to talent. Talent trumps experience-size-maturity in my book.

        different distinction for Jesuit

Every time Jesuit plays in a championship game, I recognize their opponent as the true champion of 6A in that specific sport. Does that discount Jesuits successes? Why yes it does! Jesuit really is a single school in its own league. Without comparable schools to compete against, it joins 6A without the "limiting factors" that apply to the rest of the competitive 6A system. Jesuit does not rely on the randomness that is the foundation of public school competition. With every other school, other elements must come into play to make up for some degree of missing talent: such as good coaching, team respect/bonding, a strong competitive spirit, and luck. That's why championships are traditionally so special. They are distinct, unique, and unusual. They are the result of a combination of factors that rarely pull together at just the right moment. Sports magic! Jesuit is stocked with talent. For me, its championships are therefore one dimensional. Jesuits championships, for the most part, lack the richness created when a whole bunch of random factors some how align for greatness. Where's the magic in that?

And at the reunion 20 years from now that losing team will celebrate their true championship, and jump up and down at how they are the "real" winners, because they did it without all those other elements that Jesuit is blessed with. Yahoo. And if x school wins, it's because they are blessed with better facilities, and if y school wins it's because they are blessed with kids who don't have the hardships of other schools, and if z school wins it's because they are able to pay their coaches slightly better than others or have better volunteers or have whatever other excuse you can think of you. Go ahead and instill in your kid that the world is unfair and that your kid is the "true" champion. Me (who happens to be the parent of teens in public schools)? I'll congratulate whatever school wins, including Jesuit, and instill in my kids the value of sportsmanship, competitiveness, hard work, and that whining rarely accomplishes anything.

I agree that to place Jesuit in the same league with other
high schools is a huge advantage. It truly does take away from the randomness of high school sports. Even so, there are some great athletes going to Jesuit and I must give them kudos for doing what they do. To the teams that beat them (which is virtually impossible) I give even bigger kudos. Go get em public schools... its the team to beat.

Great post. This post will invariably take heat from the Jesuit faithfully on here but it is a very accurate summarization of 6A sports in Oregon and why many larger states have separate leagues from private schools like Jesuit.

Except for that you run into the same problem we have in Oregon with everything. We are too small. There would not be enough private schools to compete against each other. I know I know you people would like for Jesuit to compete against say Horizon. Well that's just dumb.

My kids do not go to Jesuit, but I sure would like to send them there as I think the education they are getting in their public school is less than stellar. So, how about instead of worrying about Jesuit winning yet another state title we concern ourselves with making our community schools better? Now that Oregon has open enrollment do you think the best athletes are going to pick the academically challenged High Schools? I promise, they will not and now you will just see a shift from your public school to what is know as a public private school (Lake Oswego for example).

My last point is this. When you look at 5A you see Sherwood killing everyone, and they do not deal with the same environment that say a Jefferson does, so how is it different? There are not as many controls, but there are controls.

                  Tonight's Metro Schedule

Aloha vs Beaverton - Battle of the bottom dwellers. With the rise of the Warriors as of late (not record wise) I think this could turn into a good game. I didn't say pretty, just good. I like an underdog so I'm going to give this one to AHS 2-1.

Southridge vs Jesuit - Univ of Jesuit will once again prove too mighty for meer mortals. This yawner will pit the 3rd string bra washers against Southridge's feisty front line. Jesuit 5-1

Westview vs Sunset - Game of the week thus far (since it's only Monday). Westviews ground-pounding style against the young gunslingers of Sunset. Westview has been on a little roller-coaster against their Metro opponents where Sunset has been plugging along very workmanlike. The Cat's just coming off delivering a pounding to BHS while Sunset took care of business against SRHS. If Sunset can "man-up" on defense and get some of their starters back in and productive, I think they will pull it off. SHS 2, WVHS 1.
Either way, it should be a smash-mouth affair that I'm looking forward to.

Comments are always welcomed and encouraged. :)

I had always heard the phrase; "Third string jock washer" because it was always in reference to football. I was just trying to make it relatable to the reference. I apologize if that statement has offended anyone, it was meant more for humor (as are most of my posts) and not to degrade. Sorry.

Agree, this scum saying things like this about girls. Likely can not stand up to any of these players.

By the way, Southridge had U of J tied at 2-2 until the final 2 mins. Lost on wild ball in the box goal for U of J. Far from a Yawner. Much better game for Southridge vs the all star team.

Ha Ha ha! You people crack me up. Didn't see the apology from the poster? Or does that not count? I guess it doesn't matter that they said most of the posts were meant to be humorous? You know, funny? A joke? I guess you just don't understand that.
I would have predicted a yawner too based on the performance of both teams to this point. That's why you play the game. I'm glad both teams delivered such excitement and played well.
Don't call somebody scum without reading ALL the posts and understanding the nature of the statements made, it kinda makes you look foolish.
