Inaugural National Premier Leagues Champions Cup to be held July 27-30, 2012, in Chicago area.
Any thoughts?
Hmmm, interesting. Looks like a powerful league. It kind of slaps you in the face though that other then OPL and NorCal everything is east of Illinois. I'm sure that will impact teasel costs. Looking at their website also produces some immediate questions re how OPL will fit; 1 Leagues must have home and away schedules. 2 leagues can only play one game per day. 3 Clubs/leagues cannot be "competitive" only. They must have developmental levels. Nothing insurmountable, but some pretty big culture shifts.
My understanding is this is a group of leagues whose champions all play each other. Not much real impact other than for the champion. Of these champions, how many are going to travel to illinois?
Oh well, more alphabet soup to throw in the mix, but as stated above, I am cautiously optimistic.

Geez, who is financing this, Obama? Somehow someone must think that we parents have bottomless resources. Constant states of fund raising, last minute appeals to ask for cash so scholarship players can go out of state? As has been said before, the US is the only country in the soccer world that the better you are, the more it costs....
And others talk about not wanting to spend the travel to Medford for a weaker game. Now you want to travel to the east coast to get your fannies handed to ya for a few $1000's ?
Sorry, but this is dumbest idea Ive heard of yet. Not the idea of the league, but to think that the OPL would send (or suggest) that their top teams go there. There are so many other great tourneys and showcase events here on the West Coast.
We can barely beat (in some cases) the Washington teams and in rare instances we catch a Cal No. or Cal So. team off guard. Those tourneys you can drive to for a few $100's per player.

Got news for you, Chicago is not on the east coast. Also, cost to fly to CHI is exactly the same as the cost to fly to SAN.
You are right, there are other great tournaments. So?
Don't worry. No one is going to make you participate. Besides, you've got to earn a spot first anyway.
