Morgan and Rapinoe are the spark of the next generation of US players.

Buehler wasn't any worse than Boxx. There was a reason the US couldn't control the midfield and it usually started with her. Too slow physically, and too slow on the ball.

Cheney should have been in the mid and Morgan up top

Buehler was responsible for coverage on both of Japan's goals. The second one just makes me cringe watching her let the Japanese player run free. The best thing Buehler did in the tournament was get a red card and sit out a game.

            USA & Japn

It sure seems so. These women have lots of experience, but when you can't seem to consistently put a shot on frame, why are you there? They are not getting better with age.
Say what you want regarding creativity. Japan ball movement, ability to see the game and superior vision beat the USA's superior athletic stature. We simply do not have any special players or players that truly see the game or think beyond making back passes or square passes. The US game was very predictable and we were lost in in the attacking third. Japan looked dangerous in the attacking third. It is going to be a while before the usa wins another world cup. Heavily funding a program and picking players because of size and speed and not soccer IQ will not bring home another trophy.

Once the bandwagon starts, people start jumping on it. Japan should have been run off the field in the first 20 minutes of the game. A game by the way that Japan never led and was fortunate to tie - twice. If anything, it was the Japanese "heart" that we should be talking about. It wasn't like they were the second coming of Barcelona. The US will be fine. It is in need of some new blood. Particularly in the center of the field.

Keep your blinders on and keep your head buried in the sand ... the USA needs to face reality. Unless the development system changes for both men and women, we will continue to decline as a soccer power. Actually on the men side we have never been a power.

                  Men's Side: Really, we haven't?

Women's Side: Did it ever occur to you that other countries are getting better and that vastly more women are playing? The US used to regularly win World Cup games by large margins and the bad teams would have negative goal differentials in the 20s and 30s. That doesn't happen anymore. It's tougher now.

Here are the final stats for the game; hardly a dominant display from Japan.

                  14 Shots 27
                  4 Corner kicks 8
                  1 Yellow cards 0
0 Second yellow card and red card 0
                  1 Red Cards 0
                  53% Possession (%) 47%

The Japan goals were bad defensive breakdowns, particularly the first one. But to talk about Japan like they were great and dominated the game is nonsense. This was a game the US should have won, France was a game that they could have lost.

Totally agree. Buehler was an absolute disaster.
