I read that rage is playing in the silver bracket? Is this true? If so why would the coach let them waste time and money.

Actually, the posted schedules show that THUSC Iridium and TM Rage are in the "Super Group" (i.e., higher) division, while FC Portland Navy and LO Ice are in the "Premier" (i.e., lower) division.

As for your question, the coach first decided to enter the tournament, then the entry fee was paid, and then the teams were seeded and the division they're playing in was revealed. For teams that expected to be in the higher division but aren't, I suppose they could now decide to not go to the tournament, but that doesn't seem the best approach.

How would it be a waste of time and money? The wasted time and money could come from getting pounced from the Washington clubs. Watch the results people and then let's discuss. We heard what happened to WSM last weekend and it's bound to happen with this team too.

I love the way thus guy calls it (higher) and (lower). Do you think the Oregon teams playing in the lower brackets are wasting their time and money by the decisions of their coaches?

If anything it teaches the team to travel and get to play in a tournament outside of the state. It will really suck if they only play Oregon teams, but if they get a chance to play other states then no it isn't a waste. The team gets to travel and bond; and that right there is just as important as playing in the tournament itself

I wrote the post you are referring to and was replying to someone who I thought was confused as to which division was which. 'Higher' and 'lower' seemed to be appropriate descriptions for 'Super Group' and 'Premier', which are their actual designations. I was not trying to imply value for the teams that are in the appropriate division. I'm sorry if you took it that way.

It's not my call to say if teams are wasting their time and money. For my child's team, I think the tournament would have been a better value if they were competing in the other division.

Your post was appropriate. It is higher and lower. It never ceases to amaze me how quick people are to assume that there's always some (usually negative) agenda. Hopefully the coach has a plan. Sometimes it's better to play in the most competitive groups to see how the teams stacks up and for the competition. Sometimes it's better to be in group the team can win. Positive results and reinforcement are just as important to development as playing the best competition.

And, let's not forget that as a team you do not have a choice which level you are placed in. Per the rules, all teams sign up as Premier and the tournament committee decides which teams to pull up to Super Group. Now, the "tournament committee" includes sending a poll to all coaches and managers of participating teams to rank the other teams. These rankings and records are used to decide who plays Super Group.

I haven't looked into this, but since you are pre-paid before schedules come out, I highly doubt you can withdraw and get a refund for division placement.

If you are in the "lower" division and disagree, just go win the whole thing and prove that you belonged in the higher tier for next year. If you can't do that, maybe the committee placed you properly?

Two teams from Oregon in Super Group performed well both advancing to the SemiFinals. FC Portland and THUSC Zirconium both made semi finals before loosing to Crossfire and NW Nationals in OT and PK's respectively. Great Job Girls
