    USYSA Regional Updates

Just posting an update to the USYSA regional results.

    Thru Day 2

Boys: 6 wins, 5 losses, 0 ties (31 Goals For, 47 Goals Against)

    13, 14, 15, 16, 18 Eliminated (18's were eliminated morning of day 3)

12, 19 Advanced (Great Job Boys)

17's have a shot, be it a long shot, but good luck.

    Girls: 3 wins, 12 losses, 1 tie

    12, 13, 15, 18 Eliminated

14, 16, 17, 19 have a shot. My predictions are 17 and 19 will advance. 14 and 16 will be eliminated. Good Luck to all though.

        location next year

Where is it next year? Hopefully very close or too far to drive. Forget the kids. We parents deserve the credit!

            Phoenix

I believe regionals will be held in Phoenix next year. Here's to unified soccer so that the state can be represented by the best teams!

                    Boys Side

U12 CFC and U19 ESUFC Liverpool both advanced to the semi-finals with wins today. Only two Oregon boys teams to make it out of group. Good luck tomorrow.

                      U-16g

The U-16 girls tied Cal So San Diego Surf, they needed a win to go through, Surf needed a win or tie. Good job by the U-16s to tie the Surf, the #7 ranked team in the nation, and last years national runner-ups I believe.

                        MVLA/Eastside

For you U15G fans, MVLA (nation no.1) just went into 2nd OT v. WA Premier, which was second in its pool behind Eastside. Still 0-0. Pretty classic case of how scores can be deceiving. MVLA has controlled the ball 80% plus (being conservative) in the 2nd half and OT but the ball has gone slightly left, right, off the cross, etc. It's a funny, funny game this futbol. Total prevent D by Premier but it's working and heading for pk's. Not pretty.
PS. WA Premier JUST SCORED with approx. 10 mins. to go in the 2nd OT. Game can be seen on http://www.ustream.tv/channel/region...pionships-2011.

Free kick from approx. 25 meters ties it at one with 5 mins. to go.

Wow. What a crazy finish. With approx. 1-2 mins. to go in the 2nd OT, Premier gets a pk when the MVLA keeper gets a yellow card for retrieving the ball in the box with a knee coming up into the gut of the Premier forward. PK is good. Very questionable call, but game over, right? Wrong. On the ensuing kickoff, MVLA kicks it directly toward the goal and the ball bounces up and over the Premier keeper for a goal literally as time expires. Into pk's. Premier wins the game 3-2 on pk's. So, Premier advances to the semis, and Eastside (WA) goes home (having won its pool and then losing today 2-1 to Beach).

                            Lessons learned:
Scores, particularly in soccer, can be very deceiving. No way you can pick up the paper and assume anything simply by reading the scores.
The better team doesn't always win.
Don't ever give up as very strange things can happen.
You can't win if you don't put it in, AND ON, the goal, including pk's.
Better to be lucky than good.
PK's are the most exciting way to end any sporting event, but it still is a gawd-awful way to end a game/season.

                              you forgot one ??

In any sport where the ball bounces over a goalie's head from the kick isn't worth posting about.
