If OYSA is using any part of the $ collected as a fundraiser, ir should be refunded to the families after paying refs, etc.

Keep dreaming my man...no way OR 97 girls could keep a close score with Cal South. Did you see the what happened the last time those 2 teams met? What was it, 9-0? I lost count it was so bad. And I was there in support of OR odp. Had it not been for the amazing skill of the OR keeper, the score would have been much, much higher. Its nice to support your daughter, but let's keep things in perspective now.

pretty sad if true. The Wa 97s beat BC's 96s a couple weeks ago using only about 6-7starters and the rest of the girls in attendance were pool players. Wa won easily 4-0. Whoever the guy is that's trying to put Or in the same leauge as Cali and Wa is sorely mistaken.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostFriendship Cup IS a joke. Certain parents can defend it, if they want and that's fine. Others (myself included), who take a realistic view of the situation are appalled by what has been fed to us as a "competitive tournament" is in fact a series of glorified scrimmages against other Oregon ODP teams and a couple club teams that so far haven't really given our girls much competition.
To fill out the schedule, THUSC had to throw together a team from their U15, U16 and U18 teams; and a few ex-Neon players! That's not a "team" that's a collection of available kids. As far as the lack of out of state ODP teams being a result of the economy, that's not completely accurate. I spoke to one of the coaches who confirmed OYSA's lack of funding (due to OPL clubs leaving) meant no travel to other states' ODP events. Participation in ODP events is very much a "you do my tourney, I'll do yours" arrangement. With Oregon not supporting any other state's ODP events, the dominoes were set to fall. After SoCal, cancelled, NorCal saw no reason to come, nor did Utah or even Washington. That left only BC's team and the subsequent scramble for club teams. Oregon ODP knew this was taking place weeks ago and should have cancelled, or made other arrangements. Sadly, for some kids, this lame excuse for a tournament was their only opportunity to use the ODP uniforms we all had to pay for.
I don't know what the ultimate solution is, but I suspect OPL will need to take over ODP as they are the only association of clubs who can properly fund it.
Off to the fields for another scrimmage...
We choose to believe that at least a few of the groups will stick it out and let the program get their finances together. As for the 95 and 96 girls they have done so well. These are two groups that need to keep the momentum and I have heard that Mac is still coaching next year. That is a huge plus. Everyone wants their kid to be seen by college coaches right (they all know each other) and what better way than playing under their direction.
