Agree. You don't like ODP. So what. Don't participate. If you kid is involved, pull him/her. If your kid is not involved, then have him/her pay the $40 and play in the other tourneys that will be going on this weekend. What were those again?

Thank you! Sometimes you have to go through a lot of arguments and so forth, but it's great to get some information once in awhile! I appreciate it :)

Oh I care a lot. I was involved and it co$t a lot of money and what did I get, jack!!! That$ what I got.

I care because this is a warning to all parents that want the best for their kids. ODP isn't it !!!!!!

I care a lot, don't make the same mistake I did.

Hopefull everyone will find a place to sit with all the college coach showing up this weekend, oh wait there are none, same as in January. Unless they were making money coaching a team

ODP is a waste of money these days.

I don't see how that was the '97 A team when the two regional players were on the other team. Doesn't make any sense.

Then don't pay it! Don't do it! You act as if this is indentured servitude. If a kid or his parents want to drop out TODAY, you can do it. Don't pay the $100 buck and don't play this weekend. Why is that so difficult for you to understand?
And BTW, I also was there in January and I spoke with and saw the coaches, which leads me to believe that you are either a liar, a fool, or have an ulterior motive.

Wait, I just checked this subject line today. We decided against ODP, so I have not been paying attentions. But please tell me if I have this right. There is a local ODP tournament called the friendship cup where ODP teams play each other and pay $140? Is this true?
And there are some people happy about this? Couldnt they just play each other for nothing at the practices? I do not get it?

We all paid the money before the tournament schedule went out. I can tell you that no one is happy about it. If we had known it was all Oregon I don't think anyone would of paid the money.

I don't think you have it quite right.

The Oregon Friendship Cup has been held for a number of years and, in recent years, has had a fair number of high-quality ODP team in attendance from outside Oregon. This year the only out-of-state teams attending this year are from British Columbia. Unfortunate and unexpected, yes, but not typical for this tournament.

I am happy with my daughter's participation in ODP this year. She has shown tremendous development as a result of training with high-quality coaching and high-quality players. For us, it has turned out to be a good decision.

Regarding cost, the ODP program has been a good value. I expect the Friendship Cup will be likewise. Although (as during this past weekend) they can scrimmage against other Oregon ODP squads during training time, there is benefit to a tournament format that can't be provided by training games. And we realize that organization and officials cost money.

yea but does it really cost that much money? $100 a player to play? Most tournaments for a team of 18 will cost you between $40-$50. Why such an extra cost to play your own teams that you already scrimmage against or against players you play during season play.

Parents should be asking for partial refunds.

Often times college showcases cost this much or more. Last year there was college 40 coaches that attended the tournament last year.

An example is the common Showcase of Champions in WA that cost $150 per player on top of the team registration fees.

Your right it wasnt. Teams wernt split till late last night after practice. Players were still being looked at during the game. Looking at the final roster it all makes sense now.

Thank you for the suggestion, but we won't be asking for a partial refund. The great majority of our tournament costs are for travel expenses, and if the extra $50 goes to supporting another player or otherwise supporting Oregon ODP, we're fine with that.

Good to know that there are some people who have tons of extra money to spare for other players. Unfortunately in this economic environment, there are many of us who keep tabs on the bottom line. I can't help but think of other ODP teams outside of Oregon whose participation is highly subsidized by the organization, not the other way around. Sometimes I wonder if this group (ODP) truly represents the best of Oregon. Are we leaving out the best players who can't afford or barely afford the cost of participation? I personally know of many outstanding players who chose not to try out because of financial constraints.

Well, I don't think the coaches are there to scout the 98s and 97s, especially given the paltry tournout. For the older age groups where the coaches are there to scout, I can't imagine you are going to get much exposure. Coaches are going to go where they can scout more talent for the time spent. It's not as if they have unlimited time.

We did not go out for ODP for a number of reasons and this thread is just another reminder for us that we made a good decision.

For us, it isn't financial constraints but time constraints. Time is just as limited, if not more so, than money, for many people and kids. I think there was one kid on our premier level team that went out for ODP. Our best players chose to spend time and energy elsewhere. Maybe in a couple of years.
