Happened to my daughter also and others on her team. Kind of explains how Thusc teams that were not that great... all of a sudden become good.... It is not the coaching, it is the recruiting of players that all of sudden makes their teams good. Thusc success has come from gathering or stealing players from other clubs and certainly not developing. Tom was great a recruiting from ODP and now that DOCS can't coach ODP it is left to their coaches. Rochelle just continues doing it and ODP looks the other way.
I saw and hear Tom go straight up to a girl and offer her a spot on his THUSC team. We were in the PDX airport while the girl was with her team getting ready to travel to an out of state tournament during Spring break.

Should I even begin to share the e-mail my daughter received to player for his "u-18" team that never happened.

THUSC is built on recruiting. Leave it at that.

So easy to just straight up lie on here. It's a shame that people will go to any level to try to make a person or club look bad.

What team are you talking about exactly? Iridium was good at U11, U12, and U13. Sodium was good at U11, U12, U13, U14 and U15. Mercury has stayed about the same since U11 (always a contender). Onyx was good at U11 and U12. Zirconium was good at U10 and U11. I can't think of any team that was not good "suddenly become good".

Neon at U14, continued to add players through U18

Iridium was "ok" at U11, U12, and half year at U13. They were not "good" until the end of the spring at U13.

I don't think the recruiting is a horrible thing. If everyone knows it goes on and they are not penalized for doing it, who cares? It's the other clubs who lose out because they don't do it. Players want to go where they are wanted. If they feel they have no connection with their club and another club shows interest in their talent, where do you think they will go? Clubs can't sit back and assume everyone is happy.

People here want to say OR teams can compete with the CA and WA teams. Well, those teams recruit. Do you think they just advertise and wait to see who signs up? They have reputations to hold up to.

Well I would hope so as every team does. I think the point was that they were good before they added the players. Good teams attract good players.

There are no clubs that don't recruit. Top players want to play on the best teams. If you have a good team then you're going to get good players.

As far as Iridium goes they were a top 3 team at U11, U12, and U13. I have yet to see a THUSC team (or really any team for that matter) that went from bad to great in one year.

IMHO this quote pretty much nails it. If your club can't put an attractive package together and attract talent or keep the talented players they have happy and feeling wanted, it's no ones fault but their own. To keep a top club on top you have to attract the best players. Period.

Iridium top 3? Please, what have they won? Boot ball at best to their striker.

Then I guess everyone else is even worse seems how they finished 2nd in State and only lost that game 1-0. I'd say that puts them top 3.

                        Top 3

                        1. Usonians: Won State Cup and picked up a new striker. They have had some injuries which could slow them down. Heard a mid and defender were hurt. They could be down to 13 field players, possibly borrowing from players Rage.
                        2. THUSC: Second at State Cup and picked up a Striker and Defender. What they only picked up 2 players.....LOL...
                        3. Rage: Great Coach who gets the most out of his Team.

Wild Card: OR Rush, I have not seen them play so I did not rank them.

What is going to come of the Training Centers?

The Training Centers is a great effort by USSF, but will only be taking seriously if they start moving those who are attending the Center up to national camps. Report back if you know of any new player that has been moved upward, and wasn't already on the national pools. Also would be nice for them to put out a player development plan....like "You need to work on your first touches, then we'll move you on...."

I heard rumours, and find it interesting and am curious about this. Did not work out too well for the THUSC players, this year's U18 group struggled all the way through HS. Wasn't good for Oregon soccer, but it is ultimately up to the players to decide. There will always be recruiting and team changes, but hopefully the OPL can start to work together more and improve for all, giving more players opportunities. THUSC and WSM should unite and work together, but it may take even more than that. Choice is the american way, and clubs have to worry about the money, so it will take some real cooperation to make it happen.

Thusc and WSM will never merge as long as Tom is there. He can't handle working with three DOC( Cony, Monty, and Bain). If Thusc board was smart, it would get rid of Tom once and for all. Tom couldn't even handle the MJ fiasco. That would have never happened under Bain, Monty or Cony's watch. And yet Thusc Board continues to put up with it. As a parent of a current Thusc player, and a Westside player a few years back, I'm so embarassed for my team. No wonder Gaf left the club.

Nice try with trying to say you are a THUSC parent. I could call my self the president but it doesn't make it true.

Did you really say that Bain or Monty wouldn't put up with it? I guess you do not know Cony's reputation at all. He has yelled at and embarrassed players to the degree that they are out there crying on the field. He singles players out and humiliates them in front of everyone. His teams do well so Bain turns the other cheek.
