Really, come on, this is good for Oregon soccer and in time the cream will rise to the top. Please refrain from negative coments. If you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all. In time, I am sure your child will have chance to show their stuff.

Im not saying its NOT good for soccer in Oregon, as long as the best are being viewed. But since the system is about as flawed as it can get right out of the gate, the program will be a joke, filling the minds of players and parents with false dreams and a waste of US Club Soccer's money.

I suggested long ago, it should be other coaches that suggest the players, not your own. Of course your coach thinks (or wants you to believe) that your the best. But if your recommended by others, it carries more weight and you truly are recognized as being one of the best around.

I am on board with the opposing coach suggestions as the process for this and ODP. One coach/DOC may be petty and not suggest players from one club. But if you are really worthy, then plenty of other coaches/DOC's would recommend you. This would be a much sounder process for both and remove much of the political crap. (notice I did not say eliminate the political, but would surely mitigate the political crap and propoganda of some DOC's).

There are around 40 girls on the National Team Pool.

I am sure the 1 or 2 kids in Oregon that even have a chance will be recognized.

For the others it will be lucky that they get to somewhat experience the process.

There will always be politics involved in the selection process... even at the National level.

Selecting talent is not an exact science. I am sure if your child has true potential (the 1 or 2) they will stand out and be chosen.

I am sure there are lots of very good players in Oregon, but I doubt very many will play on a national team.

I am not slamming Oregon soccer. It is just the reality of it. It is similar to us saying that our kids who are good basketball players will play in the NBA. The reality of playing in the NBA is actually higher since there are more NBA teams out there.

The other DOCs and coaches of the age group have input on which players are invited and which are not.

You don't fully understand this system. Don't slam it. Ask the right questions first.

Yes, every system is flawed. Get over it.

You need to get over yourself and the false dreams you've given yourself.

Your telling me the the Coaches and DOC at Eastside (just an example) knows the names of every player at say U14B from THUSC, WSM, SSC, LO and FC ? And knows which of these players are national caliber ? What about U13G ?

                  Wow, Im impressed !!!

So here I am asking you (the obvious expert in this matter) how it is that our player......... that say............ plays for McMinnville SC (a non OPL club and doesnt play in the OPL league). How is it that our players coach even received notice of this pending opportunity ?

Just some background first. Our player has been selected to the Oregon ODP for the last 3 years and has been to regional hold over camp twice. So Im thinking that our player has a lil something in the way of skills that somebody seems to like for some time now (and not just recently).

Do you see how messed up this whole deal is ? First its not been advertised to the whole state (regardless of affiliation) to each and every club, administration, DOC and Coaches. What I do see is it's been relegated to each of the OPL (founding members) clubs very well and the likes of other clubs in the Portland area.

Once again, this is just another division of soccer in our fine state made only available to those that "belong" and Ill call it like I see it.........A JOKE AND A WASTE OF TIME !!!

For those of you invited, congratulations. Please keep us all posted how it turns out for you.

Just trying to help you keep the ego in check. Don't hurt yourself beating your chest. Just be prepared for the fall awaiting you and your kid.

They should also let fellow players provide input, cuz then the reality of a player comes out. One player we know of keeps getting ID'd (not training center) but one of the other ID pools, and teammates can't stand ingwith the person cuz they don't work well at all with the team, ball hog, and don't talk. The players know who on their team is the most effect and they "go to" and respect. Frankly, they don't have politics. Maybe they shouldn't have voting power, but would be nice to give input on the player from a skill standpoint.

And the funny thing is that at some age groups, there were over 60, yes sixty, SIXTY, names submitted - just here in little old Portland. Included in that group were kids who don't even play in the top league (not saying that there can't be a player or two who does not play on a top team that can be worthy of nomination, but in this instance players who can't even make the a-team at various clubs, were nominated) or the top team within their own club. The maroon on here who is beating his chest and justifying the selection process really needs to do a little more homework on what actually happened so that they have a better appreciation for their kids invitation. Yes, over time the cream will rise to the top, but for now, its a real mixture.

It's funny that not a single post has mentioned which clubs have invited players or which teams the invited players are coming from. All this ranting stems from the last training center. Anyone care to say if they received an invitation this time? Post at your own risk. Apparently many posters don't like the selection process. I'll keep my opinion to myself.
