Barcelona style and if you have read the headlines lately a lot of the premier clubs and even us clubs and players are even admitting that barcelona have set the standard of how the game should be played and if you didn't notice mj teaches that style of play. Mj is first class all the way ive known him longer than you folks and you have him all wrong and maybe your kids were not good enough to be on his teams and you were threatened by this .jealousy has been around a long time my liberal friends

Tell your DD to come play with the teams that left THUSC, she will love soccer again as do all of the kids playing with MJ

Most of the Mercury parents didn't like him. If you recall Mercury did not start winning games again until MJ left. He tried to make them play formations and line-ups that were not suitable to the team. A good coach knows how to make adjustments and doesn't force his structure on a team. Not to mention they didn't like their daughters being called horrible names.

a mercury parent here - MJ is a terrible coach and the way he spoke to my daughter is unacceptable - he is lucky I didnt slap a sexual harrassment law suit on him. Personally I thought it was fair and right for him to be removed from coaching us and that Tom did the right thing. I also thought he should have been fired then, which would have avoided this scandal.

Actually, roughly half of the Mercury families really liked MJ and his style of coaching.

Okay so let's bottom line this thing and move on...The guy has documented issues that look serious but some parents feel good about their kids playing for him. Their decision. I don't think opinions get changed on forums so maybe its time to move on but watch what happens and maybe learn from this situation.

Yes, I agree. Let's stop the MJ bashing once and for all.

I do not know MJ, but when I first read he had several red cards I thought he was probably a big arse. However, I would like to know what are the red cards for? Is he trying to protect his players? Oregon refs are hardly the best. Or is he just yelling to yell and be heard. (Cursing et?)

Yelling and cursing at every call he thought was a bad call.

I keep hearing that MJ apologized and feels bad for his actions. I disagree with that. I think he suddenly felt bad because he got caught. If he hadn't gotten into trouble for his actions nothing would of changed. I don't call that remorse. Well, maybe remorse that he got in trouble.

As a parent who witnessed some of the "send offs", no cursing, no yelling... a couple times the center ref didn't even hear it. It had to be brought to the center ref's attention by the AR. I've witnessed many coaches with much worst behavior on the sidelines.

Don't believe everything you read on here. One red card the ref had no control of the game and the other boys team had multiple yellow cards and a red card, he was trying to keep his kids from getting injured. In another case the coach of the other team started in on him, the exchange was only between the coaches, nothing said to a ref. The worst think anyone was said was donkey. There was no swearing by either the LO coach or MJ. One red card got withdrawn and he was allowed to coach the very next game (but no one likes to talk about that because it doesn't make for good gossip). He should be coaching and he is.

Quit being a schmuck. There are numerous reports of him talking to the other teams kids, coaches, etc. And not in an encouraging way. Just because he isn't swearing doesnt exonerate him. Is this what you want from your youth coach? There is always a problem with this guy and you deflect the blame onto someone or something else. He got the boot and I'm sure the powers that decided this were well informed. Great decision. Move on.

I couldn't agree more. I saw his actions many times and I was shocked. It's one thing to be passionate about the game but it's another to lose control. As long as the coach is acting in that manner the kids are going to find it acceptable as well, especially when their parents are condoning it.

Messing up over and over again and only apologizing and saying you were wrong because you got caught is not learning a lesson. Hopefully getting fired and suspended will teach him that he needs to act like an adult. Only time will tell.
