Any advice for the new/first time incoming U11 players & parents for the up coming tryouts? (anything from picking the right club, playing up to the night before?)

    boys or girls?

Lots of good clubs out there so depends on where you are currently live.
If I had to pick top 3 clubs it would be FC, Eastside and LO.
THUSC is good at developing for the girls and WSM is good at developing for boys.

Picking the right club mostly comes down to how comfortable you are. Best thing to do is narrow your choices down to 3 clubs; read up on them. What are their values? Are they going to develop players? or are they there to just win games at all costs. The thing is you need to listen very carefully to the answers they give. Many clubs will give you answers that you want to hear.

As for playing up. If you child is talented enough sure.
My child played for with his age group. But he attends practices of the older age groups to go up against older, bigger and better players. So that could be an option.

Most importantly is that you find a place that your child will enjoy playing.

Unfortunately this does not promote my daughters club, but I do have to agree. Thank you for an unbiased post. Good info.

I would add, which helped us to make our decision for this u11 year, was to meet the coach and make sure that he was a person that I want my daughter to be influenced by at this important stage in her life. The coach also needs be a great teacher and will help give the girls the individual fundamentals needs for the rest of their career. I think we found the perfect coach, unfortunately the club is not known for it's girls program. We're hoping that this coach will bring the same success to this team that the club has seen on the guys side.

As to playing up, I would definitely try to attend a practice and meet with the coach before once you narrow down to a couple clubs. If your child is already playing up, it is a year to year evaluation as when to go back to his or her own age. From what I have seen, this usually happens for girls when they are U12 and would play up to U13 since size development happens a lot that year. I am not sure how it is for boys and of course it is case to case. For our girls they have played U12 twice, when they were U11 they fit in one year up great, looking at the going into U13 as a U12 we noticed a huge difference in size and speed.

As far as clubs, depends on boys or girls, but any of the big clubs that have been mentioned like FC, WSM, LOSC, THUSC, etc. are going to develop your player. From personal experience, the right club for your son or daughter now may not be the right club in two or three years, all you can do is worry about what is best for your family this up coming year, the rest of it will figure itself out.

        Best of luck.
