Quite possibly the dumbest statement I have heard for a long time. I have nothing to do with Rage, and can care less about them, but it's all about playing time. And playing on the "top" team, if there really is one here (which there isn't), is of much less importance than development. If college is your goal, they don't offer scholarships to the entire team. Playing time is really important right now so who doesn't want all that they can get?

Funny, they don't seem like a mess when you have to play against them. They seem like a very good team. Although if they are a mess, I'm sorry to hear it.

Who is Paul? And who will the OSSA coach be next year for U15 girls?

Slover... he's the head coach although you wouldn't know it, since he leaves most of the coaching to his assistant and when he does show up he moves players around constantly. The girls are often confused and suffering from identity crisis.

I know this sounds good, but what if the team has a great coach but mostly medicore to poor players. Isn't part of a players development tied to playing with better players? If you never get a through ball how do you paractice finishing in a match? If players are unable to trap and pass how does someone of better talent get better at a more complicated offensive attack, and how long should you wait?


Also, a good forward by themself tends to get double and triple teamed and generally beat to crud. On a better team isn't this less likely to happen.

If you sit on the bench the whole time how do you learn anything. I tittally agree with the above about playing with the best team you can, but parents need to relax...thus board in particular is full of a lot of parents arguing with each other about who's team is better, seemingly because it means ego points for that mom or dad to say their kid's team is #1. Really, until a champion is crowned, no one is #1. No one is the best until it is all over, so get over yourselves.

Coaches matter much more early in a player's development. Teammates (that is playing with excellent players at practice) make you better later (maybe from U14 and above). But eventually for a player to optimize their development, they need both good coaching and excellent teammates. Practice is when most of it happens, not in competitions.

Slover's a joke (for a coach or administrator). He should stay in his office where he could be most beneficial to his club (answering the phone). In the past three years he has NEVER set foot once on the field to help or assist our team. Isnt that what "Director of Coaching" should do ? But on the other hand, Im kinda glad. We have a great coach and I cant think of how he could improve that.

My son is playing up one year for U11 and he is a solid starting player. Will he be better off playing for U12 this year or stay at his own age group with the best coach who knows how to develop a player?

I would say stay with the best coach at developing a player. Chances are you might move him back down anyway next year. My child played up and we moved back down to the age group and it was a good decision

Excellent advice. We had a similar experience, and our son ended with a much better experience at his age group, then playing up.
