U14 next year coach

Noticed that WSM has a new coach at U14 for next year on their website. Does anyone know the new coach? style? past teams?
Please no disparaging remarks.. thank you. just want to help my daughter make the right decision. We're out of state cup, but will watch the games this weekend. thanks for any input.

Very solid coach. He gets a lot of the credit for developing the WSM Fury, arguably WSM best girls team in the club and best girls team in the state. He is a girls varsity high school coach and always takes his team far in the playoffs. He has a lot to offer individuals and has even more to offer in the development of a team. I have a lot of respect for his coaching.

If you are talking about the girls U14 coach, you should check him out yourselves. Some like him but some don't as would be expected. The big problem is he is a club and high school coach for the same gender which is a conflict of interest.

OSAA has a "rule of two" that prohibits high school coaches from attending practices or games with more than two players or encouraging players to attend. See OSAA website for practice limitation rules.

Coaching a girls team at U14 is not a problem with OSAA. It's when they are U15 (high school age), but even then he can coach because the OPL league for that age does not run during the high school soccer season. There are several coaches who do both.

Actually there are rules year round and during the HS season, and most coaches do follow the rules. Some do still coach but are very careful about it. He may not be breaking the actual rule of two until the girls are in high school, but in the mean time if he is advertising, promoting, influencing, encouraging, recruiting etc. that is also against the rules and it creates a conflict which is unfair to all. Maybe he is going to quit high school or just coach the u14 for one year? I don't really know just letting the original poster know so s/he can check it out. Attempts to circumvent the rule by encouraging team members to attend out-of-season practices or camps during the Association year other than through general dissemination of information or brochures shall be considered a violation of this rule.

7.2. A member school or official representative of a member school shall not participate, either directly or indirectly, in the promotion, management, supervision, player selection, coaching or officiating of an all-star contest involving high school students during the Association year.
7.3. No member school or official representative of a member school shall condition participation in high school athletics on participation in a non-school athletic event, including, but not limited to camps, leagues, and any form of organized summer competition. Further, no member school may give consideration to such participation when determining membership on, or participation in, high school competitive athletics.
1. Q. May a coach require participation on a non-school team including summer teams or use participation on a non-school team as a factor in selecting members of a school team or allowing full participation in team activities?
A. No to both questions. Participation on a non-school team is a personal choice of the student and his/her parents, and may not be required or even considered when selecting school team members or allowing full participation in team activities.

This may all be true, but likely would not apply here. Very few if any of the kids on the current WSM upcoming U-14 team will feed into the High School to which he coaches at. Therefore eliminating any potential conflict of interests. It is possible some may move to the team, but at this point there is very little to no concern of a conflict of interest for this coach.

Yes very true. I would be worried if all the players moved to his HS. :) But then again if they all went to Jesuit, no one would blink. Something not right there.....

My daughter plays for Sunset and obviously for THUSC during club. Their coach is very strict about not mixing the two and has never mentioned his club team during the HS season. He makes it clear when we can and can not practice and demands the girls full participation. We have several THUSC, WSM and other players who don't play club on this team. I am one who falls into the category of liking this coach. He is great with the girls, trains them hard and isn't afraid to think outside the box. If he is coaching the u14's at WSM then I think they are getting a great coach and would expect nothing less than them doing very well. Just my POV.

Please define "WE" , as I am not sure who we means. I certainly am not aware of any recruiting done by this coach. Not to say it doesn't happen, bit I am not aware of it.

We as in most metro high school people :) Obviously not those who are not involved in girls high school soccer.
