Having seen the two teams play each other several times, I would say they are fairly equal, but the talent and ability is distributed differently. Ireland is not that much better than Navy, but they sure have Navy's number.
Don't be a Jack Ass and call out a coach who you don't even know. If you know him so well then you would know that he was not even at the game.

Lisa Sari (their assistant), and Rob Baarts were on the bench with the team. Mike was at his son's graduation from college.

So in this age group, what would the final rankings look like?
1. THUSC
2. OSSA
3. FC PDX
4. Will Poss
5. ESUSC
or do you switch 2 and 3?

Definitely switch 2 and 3. Not even a doubt in my mind. If I recall, last time 2 and 3 played each other FC totally outplayed OSSA, beating them 3-0.
What a ridiculous post!

FC has beat OSSA/LO every time they have played them in probably the last three years, this is a ridiculous statement that OSSA is better

Impossible to compare teams based on performances against third party teams. Multiple head-to-head competitions is really the only fair comparison...

FC Portland made it to the finals. They were outplayed by Ireland, but that is just stupid to say that OSAA is a better team then FC Portland because they lost by fewer goals.
You can say OSAA is a better team when they finally beat FC Portland. A loss is a loss... the 2nd place team does not go any where.

Unfortunately, as you say I wasn't there so I can't answer this for myself. Also unfortunately, few out there could give a detailed analysis of what went wrong for Navy, and even fewer would be willing; FC parents being reticent about saying anything too revealing or possibly negative about the club. I'm not flaming, it is pretty much true. That said, I would still find it interesting to read what someone who is familiar with Navy and who was at the game give a breakdown of what they saw different in this particular meeting of the two rivals.

What does really matter?

One thing about sports that should be recognized is that certain teams do better or worse against certain other teams. For instance, Ireland has beaten Navy (Marine) the majority of games they've played. Sunderland has beaten Ireland more than Navy, yet Navy has beaten Sunderland most of the time.
That's just the way it is sometimes.

That said, I wonder what happened with Lisa and Rob coaching that resulted in such disparity. Rob isn't likely to be terribly familiar with the team, but Lisa certainly is.

I think most people who are familiar with the team will agree that individually the players on Ireland are faster (more athletic) and more skilled then then the FC Portland players. I think most people will also agree that if this is the case then you have to change the game plan a bit. In addition if you start out 2-0 (and the other team dominating) as in last years State Cup you need to change things up a bit.
You sound like you are familiar with the FC Portland coaches. Did your daughter get cut from FC Portland ?
