I like that you picked some upsets but I still have a hard time believing WSM will make it to the finals. But, if OSA can pull off a win over FC it would be very interesting. I am not sure OSA could sustain their winning ways against EMFC if they played in the quarters. EMFC did beat them soundly 6-2. I do realize they have more depth and experience now so it is possible, i just wouldn't pick it.

The other side of the bracket I'd agree with. ESUFC and WUSC are both pretty consistent and strong but I'd agree the edge goes to WUSC.

I kind of struggled with putting WSM in the finals too...however has actually only lost one game this Spring. They beat FC and tied Eastside. They play FC again this weekend.

Eugene beat OSA first game of the season and since then Eugene has gone down hill. OSA has actually really turned it around since the beginning of the Spring. I expect good things from them and actually could see them being the Cinderella Story of the State Cup.

WUSC and Eastside are though my picks to win it all depending on who wins the Semi-final between the too.

          WSM to state final

WSM is playing really well and has beaten FC twice already (2-0, 2-1) and tied with East Side FC. I won't be surprised to see WSM vs. Arsenal for the state cup championship this year.

WSM has really turned it around this spring season. Any WSM parents put there...what do you attribute this turn around to?

Good luck to all U13 boys. I think it's anyone's State Cup to win. There are certainly favorites (ESUFC and WUSC are my picks as favorites) but I really believe any Premier team can beat any other premier on any given day. It's a deep field.

              No Big Surprises Yet

....though the goal differentials are a little more than expected for some of the games.

              Saturday's Results:
              FC Navy 6, OSA 1
              WUSC 4, WSM International 2
              EMFC 7, FC White 1
              ESUFC 4, SSC 0
              WSM Inferno 6, PCU 4
              LOSC 4, NEU 0

                FC vs OSA

FC Portland played very well Saturday and are back to their old form. OSA had some sick players and were missing their goalie and subs. The first four shots FC put on goal all went in.

                  WUSC v. WSM

Great game yesterday. WSM gave WUSC a challenge. Double team on the WUSC playmaker #4 and the rest of the team is just average. WUSC players started getting rattled when WSM scored on their keeper in the 1st 2 minutes. WUSC was offsides on their 1st goal, also drew a couple yellow cards, one for stalling with the ball, which the Ref did not appreciate. WSM fell apart in the 2nd half, still a mental game for them. They have the talent. Coach should be more observant of the rotation.

WSM reminds me a lot of EMFC, talented but a bit inconsistent and, as you said, still a mental game for them. I wouldn't count either of them out long-term at this age group.

ESUFC lost to EMFC?? What a surprise. Can someone elaborate on what happened?

I'll take a stab at it. EMFC scored first at about the 25 minute mark on a bit of a counter attack. Halftime it was 1-0. EMFC scored again about 10 minutes into the 2nd half, EMFC stole the ball from a defensive clearance, nice service in, keeper hesitated when he shouldn't have (not easy being a keeper!), giving EMFC an easy goal. ESUFC scored on a PK a couple minutes later making it 2-1. EMFC scored again about 10-15 minutes later (another counter attack which resulted in a 1 v 1 w/ the keeper). ESUFC then scored with less than 5 minutes left (ESUFC was putting a lot of pressure on EMFC, put together a few nice passes ending in a nice shot). Both teams fought hard. EMFC probably controlled slightly more of the play in the first half, ESUFC put a fair amount of pressure on in the 2nd half, both teams had several opportunities that didn't materialize but really no amazing saves by either keeper all game.

Ultimately, both sides played pretty good soccer, I think EMFC just made fewer mistakes today and put together a solid 70 minutes which is what they have struggled with in the past (i.e. playing consistent the entire game).

Still some games next week but the way the games turned out this past weekend it looks like here are the likely quarterfinal match-ups:

                              LO Mambas vs WSM Int'ls
WUSC Arsenal vs OSA Galaxy (or EMFC Riverplate - they must beat OSA to get in)
EMFC Boca Jrs vs NEU Fire
FC Pdx Navy vs. ESUFC Boca

Some tough games for quarters, especially the FC vs ESUFC match-up. They all should be very competitive except maybe WUSC's games but if OSA if full strength again, they will have a fighting change.
