many clubs, at the age you are discussing, have an internal league, often with volunteer coaches and a staff director. What you will get on this forum is a lot of banter about who is "best". This is usually an irrelevant idea.

If your child is just starting to play soccer, the most important thing is to find a "hook" that keeps them engaged. Maybe it is playing at the same club as their buddies, or maybe it is their connection to the coach, or maybe they just think the uniforms are cool. As with anything Soccer is a long road to mastery. True coaches should tell you engagement gas to happen before anything else.

People may talk about the technical superiority of "insert club here"s youth program. To your individual child it will be some time before that matters. Get them in a fun environment where you don't have to drive all the way across town several times a week

My player has improved so much since joining FC. Much more than the previous club they were at.

If your child is just starting to play soccer you should just sign them up at the local rec program. It is cheaper and they will have fun. If you want to join a competitive club and pay more for "training" then you should have professional coaches. Clubs like FC Portland or THUSC are not cheap. If you are going to pay $80 a month, you should have professional coaches and not parent volunteers who main goals are to advance their own child.

isn't it more like $100-$150 a month? If this parent us trying to understand the soccer reality let's at least give them real facts.

FC Portland Jr. Academy is $80 per month.

The point is that is parent are paying for professional coaching and not parents who have limited soccer knowledge teaching soccer fundamentals.

Just an opinion, but this seems like too much too soon for kids this age. Clearly there will be parents hoping their little one will be the next superstar, but considering theories if both physical and brain development this level of specialization is overkill. At this age paying $100 per month or $100 per session will not create a significant difference in the development of your child.

BTW for the math expert quoted here, $200 or $350 for a 7 week session is not $80 a month.

I guess if parents have this money sitting around it is their business what they do with it, but be aware the difference in what you get for the FC price, or what you get from a local club may not justify the difference in price.

THUSC is $90 for 12 sessions. They train twice a week and what is nice is that if you happen to miss a day you still have that day remaining. They have quality coaches and great training. There is no one time fee or training gear package that you must buy.

We are from FC Portland. FC Portland runs a great Jr Academy program and from what I can tell THUSC and Bridlemile also run great programs.

                      So Does

All clubs run great development programs. Not sure why everyone is touting FC, Thusc.
Lake Oswego, Southside and Westside Metros also have great development programs.

There is no argument about the quality of the FC, Thusc, or many other u6-u10 Programs out there. The only bone of contention is if the difference in value is worth the difference in price. FC you pay essentially $100/month for their session, Thusc is 60 per month (90$ for 12 sessions, 2 sessions per week). Annualized cost that's $1200 and $720 respectively. That's a handsome nut to crack for a u-7 parent. The alternatives while nit providing professional coaching are significantly less expensive.

As a coach I cringe that we force specialization on kids at 10-11 years old, this just drives it younger.

Understand, I believe the FC, Thusc, and other programs to be very well run. Each family just needs to follow their budget.

                          Yes

and for $90 a month you get inconsistent coaching. Sometimes you coach does not show up at games and practices and things change day by day. Stay away from the $90 their are other programs that offer training and consistency. Reading this forum you would think the only one club quality .. since they consistently tells us how great they are.. or perhaps someone is paid to patrol the forum for them.

You are an idiot. No one said that the other clubs don't have quality programs. People are commenting on what they are familiar with. Especially for U10 and under, most parents are not as involved with clubs other then their own. Parents from other clubs should pipe up if they like their club's programs. The THUSC and FC Porland parents are only sharing their experience.

I am an FC parent. I agree. Our Local club charged a nice fee then still had all parent coaches. Parent coaches tend to play to win and teach stratigies rather than skills as they usually are not skilled themselves. They also tend to have kids specialize. (Not all but most.)

If you can get a prent coach that will just let them play, have fun and be creative great, if not, head to THUSC of FC
