Has anyone been invited to the US Training Center? It sounds like a great experience if you get invited.

If you are talking about the US Soccer Federation Training Centers, they are not part of a club or US Club Soccer . Check out the description on US Soccer Federation website under youth soccer). They are US Soccer's effort to broaden their ID program and not necessarily rely on ODP or ID2 programs. Players are selected by the US Soccer scouts or recommendations from coaches. It is a priviledge to be invited, and usually they hold a series of Training Centers in the same area that they'll invite players to, so not everyone gets reinvited to the next one. The purpose seems to be to get more players in the loop directly by USSF. For potential national pool ID or to start tracking players escpecially collegiate level. Good opportunities for competitive play for ypur player. You can see the city schedule on the USSF website.

We received email invites from USSF I'm not sure of "ref identifyng". This doesn't sound in line. We had scouts at our games for first round, then second round and beyond it is based on the national staff at the Training Centers.

Or they also look at the rosters and the refs give them feedback on the players throughout the year in each game. It really is a complicated process.

There were no scouts at the OPL games (at least not for the younger age groups). The coaches and DOC's recommend players and then all the DOC's get together and whindle down the list. Those kids are invited out to the training centers for the USSF coaches to take a look at. They invited out about 50 girls for the '98 year. I don't know if it is the same process for the older age groups.

National team staff were around a couple times at some tournaments, and input from coaches. But a coach who limits their representation to the one or two they always send along doesn't seem to be in the spirit at least in the first Training Center in your area. I think the USSF is trying to make up their own mind and a more organic approach to ID - not relying on ODP and other leagues like ID2
