I have to admit I am still confused by this whole line of thinking. So in essence we are saying I could go out and start a private, and small region of Oregon league, I could affiliate with one of a number of organizations (AYSO, US Club soccer, etc) and I can claim that my league cup is worthy of being called a state cup. The fallacy of this is the cup doesn't follow the participants. If a team decides to not participate in State cup, they are perfectly free to make that decision, but they have then made the choice to not be involved in State cup. I sympathize with the teams who believed NWCL, and Surf cup would be worth the sacrifice of state cup and true regional play. OPL was an experiement, some things improved soccer and were worth the change. Other sacrifices were hastily made. There will only be one state cup, there will only be one champion who goes to regionals. Regionals will be played in Boise by qualified teams, not in Seattle by anyone who chooses to sign up. Sorry if that is disappointing to some, but we all bear the cost of our actions.

The winner does not go to Seattle, but straight to Nationals.

Agreed with you for the most part until your part about "qualified" teams. Very few if any teams that remain and win the OYSA state cup could ever be described as "qualified". It will be an embarrasing event to watch the performance of the "qualified" teams at Regionals as most will not be representative as the best of Oregon.

The winner of a spinoff league in OR goes directly to the "Nationals" (a tourney that in and of itself has poor attendance) without even proving itself in a regional tourney? What kind of a joke is this?

Regarding the lack of qualified teams in the OYSA regionals, just spread the word that the truly "best" teams are at home. I'm pretty sure the attending teams and the rest of the West will give a you know what.

Your speak of this as an important value of yours. Who/whom is to blame for this ?

I personally prefer my child to play in the OPL versus tougher competition and in the NWCL against great teams then a one shot chance at Regionals. It's sad that we have to choose but since we do I believe we made the right choice. My child is getting many more tough games and is still playing teams from other regions by traveling to California to play. My child is still a U12 so being seen by college coaches isn't something we need to think about yet. We are facing much tougher opponents then we'd see by staying in OYSA.

OYSA for choosing not to listen to the competitive clubs.

I would be interested to know where you got the information about the poorly attended Nationals.

OYSA did listen to them, gave them everything but the money. So tell us all again whom is to blame or what really was the motivation for the splinter action ?
