    OPL ODP vs OYSA ODP

The OPL version of the ODP program was brought up in another thread. Anyone have any information on this program? When will it start? How will it be run?

After Regional Camp in the summer is the guess. It will just be for girls as clearly the boys have the Timbers program.

What about the younger boys, say U11-U14? Will they just stay OYSA ODP?

There is no ODP for U11, but they have JOC for them. I would imagine that the Timbers will take the boys ODP program top to bottom. Total control. The girls side is where the OPL will try and create something new as there is just the PDX Rain relationship.

The obscene costs of the AZ trip last month have caused much anger and dismay especially on the girls side. As it was seen as the girls were paying for the many low income players on the boys side to make the trip.

The costs seem a bit high all around. For the regionalized ages ('97 and '98) you pay $65 to try out, $150 for 6 training sessions, another $150 if you make the Eugene roster, another $150 if you make the State Pool, $600 for the Utah friendlies and $650 if you make the regional pool roster.

How much will the OPL ODP cost?

My son in on the Eugene area roster and it was $65 for tryouts and $150 for 10 sessions (which I think is pretty reasonable) and that's all unless he makes the state roster.

You failed to mention that the $150 for the Eugene tourney includes round trip transportation, hotel lodging and meals. The $600 for the Utah trip includes air fare and lodging, and the $650 for the regional tourney is the same. IF you make the regional pool, it costs your nothing more (then spending money).

So for $365.00 in registration fees, you get a weekend of play at try outs, 15-20 (2.5 hour) training sessions, training jerseys, and tournament play against the other 13 western states best teams over a 6 month time frame.

I wish our club could do things this cheap.

                Response To ODP Cost

I don't think OYSA is making any money on ODP.

I think the reality of it all is in the past a certain amount of OYSA membership fees went to ODP. It is sort of ironic because I think back then I remember reading complaints from some recreation players/parents about not wanting their dollars to go to ODP.

Today with OPL in the picture, many of the members have moved onto OPL so OYSA is not able to get the ODP fees from all of these families. I forget what the amount was, but I recall it was several dollars per member which is significant if you consider how many players OPL has registered.

That is my 2 cents. I don't think OYSA is trying to take advantage of ODP players. The difference in cost is that ODP players are having to pay more of the full burden then in the past. And BTW, I am a OPL parent so I am not defending OYSA because I am OYSA.

The OPL ODP program will be free, uniforms are free, training is free. Truely the best of the best should be out there with nothing holding them back.

The travel will not be in my opinion, subsidized would be great. I agree the rest will be free (hopefully)

Can anyone please provide some facts. No, it will not be free. The same issues will continue to come up. OPL non-ODP players will be subsidizing tourneys for OPL ODP players? How long do you think that will be acceptable to the non-participants. The program is not even in existence yet and there's a reason for that.

Seemed to work fine for OYSA until the OPL started up. Everyone was funding the ODP program.

Agree that's the way it should be to some extent. I believe everyone benefits. I'm not sure the non-OPL ODP players (parents!) will be agreeable to subsidizing the program.

Any details about the program, e.g., who will they be playing, etc., or is it just like an ID2 program?
