In my opinion, the forum has really improved over the past year. It's not as nassty as Oregon Live has gotten and the posters are putting some good stuff up. What makes a good forum is people posting good content. It's that simple. If you want to improve the forum, improve your posts, and keep them coming.
I agree that content is king, but I think having more registered users would make the forum easier to follow. There have been several posts that have great content, and then 20 unregistered users agreeing. For all I know, it's the same unregistered user agreeing with his own post over and over again.

If you have something of value to contribute, why *not* put your name on it?

Unfortunately, unless the forum is changed to registered-users only, we will still have to put up with the cowardly trolls on here that derail a great debate with their "nanny-nanny-boo-boo" posts about hurting 11 year olds and calling out grammatical typos.

      Trolls?

Just because one chooses not to bother with registering, it doesn't make him a troll. You can still be anonymous, and cowardly for that matter, even if you are registered. Now if you want to make sure everyone is brave, then make them use their real name in the posts. That way you are sure who is doing the flaming and who is being flamed. You can then know who is with what club and team and you will be able to keep score so very very well.

I do agree that when a person posts with a name it is easier to follow the posts in a thread.

No, I didn't say unregistered user = troll. That's not what I meant, and I apologize if it came out that way. I meant there will still be trolls unless the forum is changed to registered-users only, which I don't see happening. But then again, like another poster said, you could simply logout of your "nice" username and login to your "mean" username and bash away.

There has been a ton of great content on here from both registered and unregistered users. It's when the thread turns nasty that it seems to me the "trolls" come out and start flaming people. It's just easier to do when you can hide behind "unregistered user". To me, it's the same thing as walking up behind someone, punching them in the head and then running away.

When I first stumbled upon this forum it was like that. Everyone was registered and we posted about matches, both good & bad, how our roster(s) had changed, how great one team is, how another team really stepped it up and so on. Fact is, it was back when my daughter was U12 and no one had heard of any of the teams in that age bracket because the posters were primarily from the U13 age bracket and spoke of Ireland, Possession and those great teams. It was great. Then the bashing/flaming started from many unregistered users and things deteriorated quickly and all the old registered posters went away. Wish I could find where they went.

This cannot happen on the Washington Premier forum. They have a way to lock you into one user name per IP address. (Yes, if you have 2 computers, then you have a way around this--let's not get hung up on how to beat the system).

Have any of you ever visited the discussions there? I find them pretty intelligent (not always of course).

                Intelligence

I don't want to get hung up on it, but considering that so many people use smart phones and laptops in different locations, the IP address limitation is trivial to get around.

I have spent quite a bit of time on the WA Premier forum; it is quite good and gets lots of good posts. It gets a few idiots and flames as well, and there is plenty of disagreement. This is not just because the posters are registered, it's because the forum is dominated by people who want to get something good out of it.

Quite frankly, I like to have anonymity when I post sometimes. I'm not looking to flame someone, but there are times I like to float a trial balloon and don't want some who know me that it came from me. As the community of posters has gotten larger this has become less of an issue.

Since it is unlikely that this forum is going to change policies, there's not much sense in going on too much more about it but, remember that disagreeing with another poster or calling him out or prodding him is not the same as flaming him. At one point in this forum there was a group of forum buddies that had a tendency to beat up on anyone that didn't spend his time back-slapping. Disagreements and even arguments are natural and make for a more entertaining and enlightening environment.

So, to be a complete bore: Contribute, post often, keep it civil, don't be thin skinned.
