    Is OPL Director's Cup D.O.A.?

Are any OPL teams out there going to participate in the Director's Cup? What is the point to doing this if you are playing the same teams you played in league?

Maybe it makes sense for the Silver teams but not for the Gold.

It's the same as all the other Oregon tournaments you play in. For the U11's it's kind of like a State Cup.

      From OPL website
      "
The tournament is open to any U11-U14 team currently playing in the Oregon Premier League (provided they are not currently participating in the Northwest Champions League), and any U10 team. The U11-U14 registration fee is $450, while the U10 fee is $275.
      "

so , because it is only open to OPL teams, it is NOT the same as any other tournament. It is restricted to opl teams only. Why not let Bend join in, for example?

In u12 they are in the OPL but didn't sign up for the OPL cup.

Bend's U12G team is probably going to be in it. Why would most of Bend's teams want to be in it when it's meant for the younger teams and lower level teams? I can't see their U13G team wanting to come join when WSM, THUSC, LO, FC, Rage, and etc can't be in it either.

OPL Director's cup is not available to non-OPL teams. Only the U12G team is represented from Bend I think. (I don't follow the other age groups.) so it's not an option for any of the other teams.

Why can't the OPL have their own tournament?

Because if a "non-opl" team came in and spanked their regulars, wouldn't that disprove their sales pitch "we offer the best competition".

No, that wouldn't because overall OPL does off the best competition. That's like saying that if a team from Oregon went in and spanked California then California couldn't say they have the best competition. OYSA has some great teams but their overall competition is lacking.

Spin it like you want, but lets face it. Its just another tourney like Nike Cup, Chinook Cup, WaterFront, etc.. Except the OPL is preventing a team that might want to play in it because they didnt play in their league.

The winner of the tourney doesn't go anywhere, doesn't get any greater recognition or exposure and doesn't bump up a bracket for being the best. Other than those involved or maybe the results posted here, who will ever hear about it ?

If I were to tell someone that I offer the best there is to be had, I would naturally invite all comers. I would want the very best to compete for that brass ring. Not to mention I want their entry fees. So why would they want to limit who plays in it ? Wouldn't they want those other teams to experience the competition from elsewhere (like the NWCL does for the upper teams) ? It might just encourage them to want to play in their league against those "better" teams next year.

                    Just a thought.

The same could be said about the OYSA tournaments. You have to play in the OYSA league to participate.

Can an OPL play in the OYSA State Cup?

That is true, but the tourney has some meaning and specific purpose, as it's the qualifier for the regional/national tourneys. Both for the Presidents and State cup championships these tourneys are ran in effect by the national office with specific rules that are the same nationwide. No one single or group of OYSA clubs personally benefit from it.

YES, if they meet the required number of games in their specific league(s).

Only if they played all through fall, at least according to the rules right now.
