What type of girl plays soccer in club & HS post u

    1. What type of girl plays both club and HS soccer after 10th grade?

(?Those looking for college/scholarship, parental pressured, well rounded, student with good grades, girls that are top or near top in skills going into HS, etc...?)

Just curious with the amount of drop off in teams that happen.

My daughter likes playing soccerr and being part of her club team as well as the high school team. She has made good friends in both. Since her previous team was losing players to HS other activities, she had to switch clubs to find other committed soccer players. She really likes the players, coach and game. She was able to do other activties/sports as well and still keep her grades up, but she if very disciplined. Sometimes it was a challenge and she would have to work things out with coaches and miss something on occasion. The high school coach and AD emphasize that they want well rounded students and athletes, and encourage them to get involved in other activities and sports. They don't have to play club unless they want to. I think it depends on the student and whether she is motivated to work hard and be willing to give up some of the high school social life.

It seems to change to the dynamics for the better. New coaches, new perspective from girls just playing at high school. I think it all gets better. It really just depends on what the player wants. If not sure, encourage her to give it a try for a year. If she can handle high school soccer, she can probably manage high school club with some other activities as well. All different types out there.

I also depends on the high school your child is attending. With most of the top 6A high schools you have to play club just to keep up or you won't make the team.

          Not necesarily, but it helps.

For my daughter soccer is sort of a way of life. It is simply what she does. It is what her friends do. As for grades, she is a self motivated go getter. She has seemed to be able to balance her school work, sports and club and ODP sports. High school soccer has been alot of fun and while not at the same level as club and ODP (no, we don't attend Jesuit) it is all about comraderie and teamwork. She has always been a "A" average student so I don't know where a line should be drawn but she seems to enjoy what she does.

              parenting is important

My daughter is a strong player who is on a top team in club and HS 6A. She gets great grades and does a second sport too. I do push her to stay focused in soccer for a couple of reasons. First she is a teen and most teens want to just hang out and that is not an option in this household. Two she is good at what she does so it allows her more freedom based on the fact she accomplishes rule 1. Third sports in general teach so much on how life is, that we some times have to do things even when we do not like or want to (go to work). Finally, because she is good with good grades she has potential to open doors to a university that she may not have had otherwise. Scholarship or not higher education is not about the school as much as it is the time you spend completing it. Kids need parents to help keep them focused until adulthood not a friend. Keep the kids focused by giving them options and helping them see what consequences may arise from their decisions.

I guess there is so little players at this level doing both or there are so little parents who even care about this kind of blog to give an opinion. I think it is more of the latter.

My daughter does both- but I didn't respond because she's not 10th grade or above. I can say age wise she's young for HS and played the two simultaneously (varsity HS and u14 club). It was seven days a week of soccer with over 30 total games. She loves the game and loves to play- coach asks her where she likes to play- her reply is anywhere on the field. I believe she will continue to do both- especially since the seasons won't be the same and club players play year-round anyways. So what do the girls that don't play fall soccer for HS do?
I'd say it takes a motivate kid that likes the game- and can handle it all. She's got about a 3.7 GPA and was doing 14+ hrs a week of soccer.
