    High school and club together

How many folks out there have HS freshman who are playing both HS and Club ball at the same time? How is it going? Do they have a preference one way or the other? Does one affect the other?

Would love to hear stories of successes or challenges.

are you speaking of players that have "bubble" birthdays in August ? Where they are old enough to be Freshmen and still young enough to be on a U14 team ?

      Exactly.

I have one, and I know others, but I am just interested in the experience out there, good or bad.

I have one next year. Were not sure what were going to do yet.

Depends on What HS Team they Make

If your Frosh/U-14 player makes varsity, focus on HS and play the club games on the weekend. If not, put a little more focus on club. Not reasonable to make all the HS and club practices.

            Our child does both

Our child does both. Their club coach is more than happy to excuse them from club practices since they practice five days a week with their HS team. They then play with their club team on the weekends. This has worked great, and they have grown both in HS and Club play.

The best thing to do is discuss it with the coaches ahead of time. Some club coaches will be OK if your kid just goes to HS practice and plays on weekends, or one of many different variations. The best thing is to sit down with both of them at the same time over a cup of coffee.

As coaches they've all been there, and they probably will appreciate the planning ahead.
