Also, I would vote for contacting FC Portland off Hwy 26 (50 minute drive), has a great program for both the kids.
That would be terrific, thanks a lot.

I contacted FC Portland and that might be a good option in the spring, but right now they don't have anything for the little kids.

I talked to a guy with Newberg and he shares my exact philosophy and sounds like an excellent option, so I think I will work with them some, but I am open to any and all ideas and really appreciate the interaction from everyone.

Thanks for the well wishes and I hope the same for you and yours.

Your suggestion of talking to the people at Tursi's and the Far Post is good as well. I have spent plenty of money at both places, but I never thought to ask them any of these questions.

I was told he trains players in Tigard Tualatin area and also coaches club. My question is he claims to play professional. But isn't true. And no license to coach or any at all? Before I give a go for my son...Daniel Degeer is his name. here is the evidence:

You can email Paul Goodrich at pgashby@msn.com or call him at 503-652-7488

Paul is the real deal. He has trained the likes of Courtney Verloo, Jensen Skinner,Kelsey Hones, Mo Fitzgerald & Ana Montoya all of which are top players at Oregon, Stanford & Arizona.

Hs linkedin bio states a draft in 2008, but your links are all from the 1990's. Here is the link to the 2008 draft. I dont see his name there either.

I had heard that he was on the US mens futsal team, and his bio mentions it. He was a strong player at Tigard and SF.

So help me understand something...A lot of times you will hear that someone has "professional experience" or "plays professionally" to me that sounds like they have playing time on the field for the first team. Otherwise I would think they would say they were drafted by, or they were on the developmental side of, or they trained with.

Am I out to lunch here?

It seems like there needs to be a little bit more detail provided than just "I played professionally"

It is the same knock we give in the business world to people who try to claim things in their resume they didn't do.

You can claim it, but you better back it up...

With the advent of the internet, nothing is too private any longer and our ability to "verify" things is much easier. Whether in business or private lives, if you post your life or business bio for others to see, it should match what it is that you say you are in real life.

Though many rumors will abound when people read stuff, then later repeat it to enhance their experience.

I think that you would find this to be true with many "high end" people in the soccer industry. They may have played for a premier European or US professional soccer club, but did they ever play with that team in a high end match or league or just train and try to make the squad ? Both are notable marks, but still a BIG difference. Getting a paycheck from the "Crew" and playing the entire season, scoring goals is another thing.

                          Dan DeGeer

Dan is truly an amazing Coach and Trainer. He took a middle of the road Rage team from middle of the Pack to an own goal way from winning the OPL this year.

If you can get on his schedule for private training you will be lucky as his reputation has spread pretty quickly and it is hard to get his time. Besides his own considerable skills which he can show his players, (If you get a chance you should watch him play, he is one of the most respected players around the Portalns Area and plays for the local Nike Team.)Dan has done a lot of research to come up with even more training techniques to get optimal results.

As for resume's, one could go back and forth forever on how much information is or isn't need on one. If you are interested about training with Dan I would suggest setting up a meeting so you can get an idea for yourself.

As for contact information, you are not going to get it from me, my daughter has been training and playing for Dan since he started here and it is hard enough to get on his schedule as it is!! If you thnik I am propping up Dan just because my daughter plays for him...read the first 2 sentences again.

Wow, that makes our team beating The Rage last night in futsal even more satisfying!

Experience at coaching is key. Not who you played for. Playing college soccer is no big deal. It's how you coach the players that matters. Teach them respect, decision making, technical skills and instill in them the importance of team work. I know pro soccer players that are horrible coaches. you have to always be studying the game and work out what works.

I completely agree. It takes a special kind of person to be a great coach. You definitely need a good mix of; experience, the ability to relate to players and parents (constructively and respectfully) and a genuine love for the sport. Of course being professional, approachable and funny doesn't hurt either. :) I can honestly say that in the 8 years my kids have been involved in sports (soccer, football, basketball, gymnastics...whatever) we have had maybe a handful that had those charateristics.

I'd say if you're shopping for a coach for private lessons, talking to other players and parents is just as important as what comes up on their soccer resume.
