If a DOC is not aware of the best players in his or her club then there is a huge problem.

All good DOC's know who their best players are male and female at every age in their club. They will spend time with each team at least once a month at practice or games. They also talk to their coaching staff to keep informed about the teams. Together the team coach and the DOC can work out who the best players are.

If you are at a club where your DOC is rarely seen or heard with regards to your team then you may need to think about asking why this is the case?

In other countries around the world FREE is usually the "price" for the best players!!! Sadly not in the USA for the most part.

      Talk to your DOC

Talk to your DOC about it.

Likely, they are talking to their coaches and comparing notes.

The US Soccer rep does not have time to filter a mass amount of players.

Trust your DOC. This does not mean the other kids are not worth anything, but we are talking National team identification.

This is the first session. Give it time to work thought.

I watched the girls sessions (I have no kids there) and thought is looked like any other tryout.

      Good Luck to all.

How did the training sessions go? Did anyone find out if they were invited back?

            Good One

[QUOTE=Unregistered;421266]No club DOC is going to send players that are not up to standard. If they do then they will lose credibility for themselves and their club. This would cause their future selections to be taken less seriously. No DOC wants that for their club and players.

That is a good one. I sitting here rolling and LMAO. Certain DOC have already lost credibility in their selections.

What is your soccer experience? What teams have you coached at club and ODP level?

Or is this just your opinion as a paying soccer parent?

I agree. It is niave to think there was no politics happening with selections. We must keep in mind that first and foremost the DOC's are heads of businesses. They usually select the "good" players to bow to. However, I have seen mediocre players kept on teams or given opportunities ahead of better players so the sibling (who is usually an outstanding player) stays with the club.

I was unaware of the process, but have now gotten information from OPL I will pass on. I was under the impression that this would be a monthly thing, but it turns out not necessarily for each age group. The training center will be back in December for the 95 and 96 birth years. OPL isn't sure when the next 97 and 98 date will be, when that happens, then the players that are invited back will be notified. My girls were at the training and Hugo told them that there will be another training and that the kids will be notified if they are invited back. According to OPL none of this will happen until after the 95/96 session.

It was like any other tryout, ODP type style. Some of the girls really stood out in both age groups and others looked nervous, they are 11-13 after all, I can understand them being nervous. I didn't see the boys training. It is easy to sit back and judge the DOC's and the process, but it is the kids in the end that take the hit. Just think how excited each kid who got invited was, and how nervous they are now! The banter back and forth and the jealous type of pointing fingers really isn't fair to them, they are the ones that have to show up on the field and be vulnerable, so let's be nice. The kids that are not invited back don't need crap written online about them saying "see, I told you that kid wasn't worthy," give me a break. If you want to laugh, laugh at yourself.

Excellent advice. Far too much time is spent on this board passing judgement on different kids. They are the ones out there working their butts off while others sit here claiming the right to judge them. Seems pretty laughable to me.

                            Truth Be Told

No kid bashing here, just the reality of DOC being worried about their ego and pocket books. There have been instances with DOC recommending players who would not make other Clubs first teams. DOC insisted on having players selected and even tried to usurp the process. Fortunately DOC did not get his way. These are the same DOCs that coach ODP and influence selection process in order to thump their chest and advertise “look at us..look at how many ODP players we have”. One of the systemic problems with ODP and the club nepotism inherent in ODP. Fortunately this program has checks and balances to avoid this issue but these DOCS have shown their true colors and have lost credibility.

Comments that start out like "there have been instances" or "I know of one player" or "I remember a situation" tend to concern me; a bit too anecdotal, which rarely is a good way to analyze an overall issue. I'm on the outside looking in and don't necessarily disagree with you, but also keep in mind that you have parents who expect/demand that their DOC be an advocate for their kids. Tough position to be in if you're a DOC. It is a systematic problem with every youth organization, and certainly not just ODP. Whoever has the answer, please bottle it and sell it. Happy Halloween.

I thought OPL DOCs were not allowed to coach ODP anymore?
