Still Confused

Has anyone seen any totals? There are to be 20 to 30 total, but it sounds like some on here are assuming that there are more than that? Does anyone know how many kids are from their home clubs besides THUSC?

In the Press Release it stated quite clearly "the top 20-30 players from the ‟97-‟98 boys and girls age groups" It seems like many of the people responding are saying 5 from this club 5 from that club. How will they get sorted down? The training is coming up pretty soon, and it would be pretty embarrassing if the National folks walk in expecting a group of absolutely top level players sorted and ready to go, and instead they get a mishmash of players who they have to sort.

Everyone is right, they leave room to change this later, but how does the group get winnowed down?

Players that are to show up Sunday have already been notified. The only club that said there is 5 is THUSC no one else has listed numbers from their club. Players that come Sunday are eligible to be invited back but it is not guaranteed, they are evaluated during Tue training similar to during ODP training.

Folks, this is not ODP. As far as I know, no online list of players will be posted.

25 Boys and 25 girls will be there.

Some DOC only invited their best (1-5) and others more.

My understanding the DOCs talked and cut the numbers to meet the 25.

After this first training session for this age group, some will be cut and others kept with more invited.

First time Hugo has been here and we need to see how this flows. Heard he will be back about once a month and bring 'Guest' coaches/players (no idea who).

The 94/95/96 will happen after Fall HS is done.

Positive Note: This is not just OPL or OYSA. This players from around the state and not with just the Premier Clubs invited. Remember, these sessions are free to those invited.

Pray that the DOC keep out of the 'friend' business and recommend the best talent.

I am curious how this us anything but just OPL. The process described was your DOC nominates a player, and scouts will travel around and decide who makes it. It is hard for me to believe this scouting happened at non-OPL locations.

Hear me right, I think this is a great opportunity and wish the best luck to all participants. I just find it hard to believe it is more than just OPL.

I understand your lack of trust, but I would ask you to try. Hugh is from US Soccer. Not US Youth or US Club.

This is about the kids with the highest level of talent. If it is not, no reason for Hugh to keep this up. Parents can not pay to getting their kids in. Free opens to door for all.

Your DOC should be attending the training to see if they have players that should be attending.

If you don't agree don't sweat, this is only the beginning. Earlier posting says players can be added or dropped each month. Coaches and DOC's sometimes make judgment calls we don't all agree with. What you should be doing is putting belief in your DOC that they will get their best out there. Players who want the invitation should be stepping up their game and working harder. This happens too often with ODP. Players get discouraged because they didn't make the cut and lose the interest they had for competing at a higher level.

And that is what worried WSM when they saw the final list that the DOC's sent out. T5here really shouldn't of been more than 3-4 per club for those age groups. And that really depends on the club. I heard WSM actually only recommended like 2 boys. If they're only going to send 2 then THUSC should not be sending 5.

You may have heard me wrong, my comment was not about a lack of trust in Mr. Perez, or his system. My comment was a strong skepticism regarding the selection mechanism. Comments like "The DOC's got together and shortened the list down" (sorry paraphrased) or "have your DOC contact us and we will come scout you" (again paraphrased). These indicate a pretty tight control if the selection process by the OPL DoCs. Now maybe they are completely without bias, and will open the doors to everyone, but I am skeptical. I am particularly skeptical when you consider what if accepting someone from outside OPL meant one if their players lost their spot?

Kind of the idea that if they don't see me here, they may see me there.

I'm guessing most DOC's just sent kids to send them but it's not too bad of an idea as long as the Mobile Traning center comes back year after year. I just hope they don't feel as if they've wasted their time if the DOC's aren't going to take this seriously.

The '97 pool was extremely weak so that isn't saying much.

I am a Rush parent and I know we have some players making the trip over for this. They are really excited for the opportunity. It was good to hear the OPL took the nominations of our DOC.
