You know, I was just reading through this and I have a player that has guest played quite a bit and I just want to offer my two cents on this. Adding a guest player to a team can be a great experience with someone who really meshes with the team (elite player or not) or a premadonna who causes friction with the team. I can understand why the player's family doesn't want to say their team name on here, but maybe a nicer response to the team would have been better. On the other hand, I'm not sure why a team would want to open themselves up either in terms of telling everyone they need players for a tournament. Any team that picks up a guest player wants to make sure that the player/family are not going to cause morale problems with their current players/parents. The response obviously threw out some red flags to the team, and who can blame a team for wanting to stay clear of this?

My suggestion would be to call the clubs in the brackets directly to let them know about your player so that you target your exact audience. Or, contact the tournament director and let them know that you have a player of a certain caliber and what you're looking for. Teams are smart enough to know that they need to get you a uniform and whether they need papers or not. I think that this may have been a last-minute effort to get the player on a team before check-in which I believe is tomorrow. But despite the lack of time left, there shouldn't be shortcuts on proper communication. The great thing is that once you guest play for a team and they like you, you are most likely called in the future for more tournaments. win/win

Minimum Number of Games???? Not looking good.

The tournament sanctioning papers show that U14s will have a minimum of 4 games. My daughter's team and a few others in the Silver bracket have the possibility for only 3 games. What's the deal? Are we going to be thrown a "friendly" late Sunday afternoon to try and make us forget that we weren't given the minimum number of games? It's bad enough that we got our games shortened - but now the number of games could be shortened too. It just feels like this tourney got too big to control.

The tournament sanctioning papers show that U14s will have a minimum of 4 games. My daughter's team and a few others in the Silver bracket have the possibility for only 3 games. What's the deal? I figured that you were probably one of those "haters" trying to throw mud at the tourney so I did a little looking myself. And it looks like you're right - lots of opps for only 3 games. And some of the teams that will get 4 games will be playing a friendly against a team they already played for their 4th game. You would think that with 500 teams you wouldn't have to play the same team twice to get your 4th game.

Teams in brackets A and B get a bid to the semi's, teams don't all play everyone in their group and some teams are only getting 3 games. Not to mention the HS game times have been cut down to 30 minutes. This is the problem with having too many teams and trying to make sure everyone gets a medal.

How can you say that team xxx is the best team in a bracket when they didn't play all the teams?

pitch you complaint to WUSC, it's their tourney and THEY took your money for promises their employee made. guaranteed, they made more money from you then he did.

Well, our team had a very good time. We had 4 close games (we wish it was 5 but they only guaranteed 4).

We enjoyed ourselves too.....competition was good; and was able to watch some other games for older groups. Great weekend of soccer.

Glad you had a good time. Our daughter only received 3 games. The guarantee wasn't much of a guarantee.

We had 4 games and could have had 5 if we had made the final. All our games were close. We will do this tournament again over the Chinook cup any day.

Agreed that it's a great tourney if you're not looking for true competition. If you're just out for a good time and not worried about it being fair then I would highly suggest the Mt. Hood challenge.

Only question I have is...How can you make a game gaurantee and then create a schedule that does not meet the minimum for some teams It just seems weird that this can happen without any unforseen events (like a forfeit, etc.).

Because Mr. Morris had already received your check. Once you had your money he could care less about being fair.

In our division brackets A and B automatically advanced to the semi's while we had to fight our way there. This was a horribly run tournament and one I hope we never come back to. We are a lower level team so I guess that was the draw for us.
