Why did LO Lightning (U12G) go in gold for the Mt. Hood challenge? They can compete with the teams in Platinum in my opinion.

might not have been enough teams for an upper division, so they lumped them together making brackets a & b (platinum) and having them advance the winners.

just a thought. you could call Mike and ask him

This is a lower division. In fact it's in Silver so there's still Gold and Platinum above it.

            Awards for many!

I just read the bracket rules at http://www.mthoodchallenge.com/docli...planations.pdf

there is one really nice thing here for the kids--a lot of them will the feeling of participating in playoffs and receiving medals. I think that's really cool for the kids, who ultimately just want to play and won't care (like some parents out there) if they are in the blue or green or whatever color playoff. It will be fun.

Agreed. That's why it attracts mostly rec and silver level teams. Usually those kids are just happy to get a medal so it's great for them! The truely competitive kids aren't happy with just any medal.

                Mt Challenge

Whatever the playoff system, field usage or whatever they must be doing something right. They are at about 500 teams. How many did FC, LO, THUSC or ESU get. Maybe they should steal a page from the MT Challenge book.

                  those clubs

use their tournament to raise money their the club...mt. hood is one fundraiser for one individual. they get a lot of teams because this individual will get a lot of money. maybe if the other clubs had individuals who were getting a big paycheck for the amount of teams, they'd work a bit harder at getting teams.

                      BAD Capitalist!

That guy is an evil capitalist. He should return his profits to the proletariat.

Also, all 451 teams that are attending the tournament are dupes. Only the guy who is posting the rumors is the smart one.

This tournament gets so many teams because it appeals to the rec clubs and lower level clubs. It is not a premier, competitive tournament for the most part. The smaller clubs and clubs with C and D teams typically come to this tournament. SSC, LO, Thusc, FC are all premier clubs who only appeal to the other premier clubs. You won't see much Thelo, Hillsboro, Aloha, etc at those tournaments.

Just about every team will get a chance to play in a final, whether it be the actual final, the second final, or the third final.

Some of the bracketing is terrible. If you're in bracket A or B you can get a free ride past the quarter finals but if you're in another bracket you have to play in the quarter finals!! What is that all about? That seems completely unfair. That's the problem with allowing too many teams in one division and not enough time to fairly find the champion.

Are you trying to be funny?

There's no kid in the world -- especially teh young ones-- that would not be happy with a medal. Unless they've been brainwashed by their parents into thinking that "premier soccer" is the only soccer out there.

And I guess that's what you meant by *truly competitive*--> "Premier level". Otherwise, you just managed to insult 451 teams of kids all at once.

I don't think they insulted anyone. I would tend to agree. My two kids would not be happy winning a medal for a championship game if it wasn't the actual championship. They would be disappointed they didn't get to the real championship. Heck, 99% of the kids on our teams would feel the same way. Competitive teams want to beat the best. They don't want a token "first place" medal if it's not the real deal. Maybe at U11 and under all the kids will be happy with a medal, just like in rec when everyone got a trophy at the end of the year.

                                Ripp off

your right playing more games what a rip off. This is a scam, and the kids might get a medal. This B.S. I demand less games and more failure for this fun weekend. I won't be happy unless I see tears.
