ODP and OPL NW Champions League Conflicts

My child is thinking about trying out for ODP this year but I am curious about a few things. For anyone whose child plays ODP, do they plan on continuing now that that OPL has defected? How is this conflict going to affect their role with their club team if they are in the champions league as well as ODP? It looks like OYSA have changed quite a bit of their ODP staff. Is it even worth it to tryout anymore? If my child is a 94, is it even worth it that late in the grand scheme of things (that is if they were to make the ODP team of course)? Thanks for your input.

Is your child a boy or girl?
The '94 boy's team team is loaded, but the girl's team may have some spots.
Not sure about the ODP/OPL conflict. My understanding is that ODP will try to be as flexible as possible regarding scheduling conflicts, but will still maintain their stance that only excused absences will be allowed for ODP training. If there are unexcused absences the player will miss games or lose their place on the team. Talk to Erik in the OYSA/ODP offices for details, but I'm sure it will be problematic for all--ODP and the players on OPL teams. When OPL has a ODP substitute in place it may get easier.

Majority of ODP players are in the OPL

Worry not most of the ODP players are in the OPL league. My understanding is both sides are going to work together for the players benefit. It is in the best interest of ODP to field the best players they will be patient and work with schedules.

I feel that Erik has done a good job at resolving schedule conflicts early so they dont diminish the pool or cause headaches to the players family trying to decide where to play.

            ODP / OPL conflicts

Is there time in December and January to do both? ODP trainings and NWCL games?

I think ODP and the OPL need to work out a schedule before anyone spends any of their hard earned cash on this.

Oh, we will work it out means, "We have no idea and will likely screw you over later when we have your money."

Of course there is alway the Timbers Academy and ID2 program. Or is there?

Anway, it is all about the kids. Go Oregon Soccer !!!

Old saying ODP stands for "Only deep pockected parents". If a player was good before ODP they will still be good without ODP. Who's life are you trying to live yours our your childs?

                What

You need to read the post again.

All I am saying is before you spend your money know what you are buying. ODP and OPL-NWCL are not going to work together. If you have noticed the NWCL has removed all the game schedules and ODP has no schedule. ODP alway has a yearly schedule by now.

The reason is no one knows how this will work.

The answer you will get from both sides right now is "Well work it out" Yeah right during tryout season everyone wants to work with eachother. Come December you better watch out.

Living thru the child of course. Everyone want the child to be things the parent could never be. Hardy Har Har. On a serious side it is stressful situation with ODP-OPL-OYSA relationship so I can understand your stress.

Your probably right, both sides are basically like used car salemen/saleswomen you can't trust them at this point. I guess which one can offer you more short term and longterm. I heard another parents talking about doing the payment plan for club instead of paying in full they feel odp is more important then club. Tough positon to be in, you will probably burn one bridge either way. Roll the dice on this years odp-opl adventure.

Forget rolling the dice, I say stand up for what is right. Before they take my money I want to know how they exactly plan to short this mess out.

To the initial poster: regardless if your daughter ultimately ever plays ODP the tryout weekend is a great opportunity for her to play 2 solid days of competitive, but "friendly" soccer with some of the best players in the state. It's fun to play with, and get to know, some rival players from other teams, AND it's a great workout and tremendous physical and mental preparation for the upcoming high school season. If she's selected for the team you can decide then if you want to accept. It's most definitely worth the $65, in my opinion.

                          Just to compare:
THUSC Sodium girls are a state champion team with tons of ODP girls on their roster (1995 age mostly i think). How would the current Champions league schedule impact their decision to play ODP or vice versa?

Dec 4 and Dec 5 Thusc plays Champs league in Seattle, ODP in Salem
Dec 11 Thusc Champs League in Portland, ODP in Salem
Dec 18 and 19 Thusc Champs league at home ODP in Salem
Jan 8 Thusc Champs league at home, ODP in Salem
Feb 5 and 6 Thusc champs league away, no Odp.

6 of the first 8 ODP in Salem conflict with Champs league. Doubt they will allow that at Odp, and Thusc is not going to want to have 5-6 of their best players gone for Champs league.

Jan 14-18 Odp regional tournament in Arizona- no champs league
March 5-6 Champs league final- no ODP.

If you play for Thusc are you going to go to ODP tryouts this weekend and just miss almost all of the champions league games or are you going to wait and see with Opl allstar type stuff with the Timbers?

Most of the rostered ODP players are 96s. However, as of last year they had 2 95s. Either way, this provides a HUGE problem, for them and other teams who may have similar (maybe not are dire) situations. When this conflict can be completely resolved, it will be for the best.

What about my daughters birthday party on January 8th ? Who's going to change their soccer dates ? My daughters birthday only comes once a year, why cant they just play on another weekend ?

Do you honestly think that Erik at OYSA ODP, your ODP coach, Your club, Your club team coach/manager or the OPL management read these forums and will react to what is written ?

You've just wasted 15 minutes of your life that youll never get back looking all that info up and posting it here. Instead, pick up the phone and call all the organizations and discuss it in person. Then pick a path and be happy with it and stop whining.

You'll get the most accomplished instead of slinging useless crap. Unless that was your primary intention. Now -------if neither of the groups are willing to change, then go ahead and post it up here for all to see. That would truly be news worthy that we could all ponder the effects/outcome.
