Cascade FC or Keizer Soccer Club

Which of these clubs is better, Cascade or Keizer? Or is there another club close to Salem that is a better option? Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't know alot about CFC girls side their boys seem good. Keizer has some decent girls teams they have a good coach Abbe that comes in and works with them once a week but otherwise it is a parent coach(that is a reason we weren't interested). You would need to head north if you want clubs with good competition and coaching. Lake Oswego isn't too bad or Willamette United as far as distance, if you want a great girls club THUSC in Beaverton.

As mentioned above CFC has a strong boys program (3 time state champions at U16,and U14,as well as a great U12 team.) On the girls side they are not as deep. This us largely because players have been split between CFC and Keizer. I do not have girls so all my information is second hand, but my understanding is Keizer typically builds teams around size and strength, and spends little type focusing on skill development. Success in the Keizer route largely depends on getting a good parent coach. There are some, but it requires some investigation.

All of CFC's teams have professional coaches and focus on skill development.

I would caution you not to give too much credence to the Portland posters on this forum. They believe themselves to have an all-seeing knowledge of soccer around the state, They also seem to believe that any team that is not part of the large Portland clubs cannot by definition be competitive. I know I have invited countless flames (all which will come from unregistered posters more tha likely) but I just want to be sure that you know there are options in Salem.

CFC is probably better all around on the girls side then Keizer.

It's a fact that the Portland clubs are producing the best teams now as a whole. It's not arrogance, but facts.

I would question your "FACT". Every discussion I have seen like this makes a very general statement like yours above, and then backs it up with citing a few specific teams. Are there good Portland teams, of course there are. Are there good teams not from Portland, if course this is true too. There are competitive teams that come from all over the state. To assert they only come from Portland is mere puffery.

I don't believe anyone stated that Portland is the ONLY place that produces good teams. But the fact is Portland produces more quality teams then any other place. Rush may have a few good teams, CFC may have a few good teams (girls side only), EMFC has a few good teams, but Portland teams will definitley offer MORE quality teams per club.

I believe between Keizer, CFC, and EMFC, a total of about 9 kids came to one Portland club this year after try-outs. Who knows how many more came to other clubs.

Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that there is approx 1m peps living in the greater Portland area ? Salem, Bend and Eugene combined barely have 400k. The fact that there are almost 3x the amount of peps living in Portland would have a huge impact on the number of [quality] players in the area.

There are also at least 3X as many clubs spreading the talent thin!

i would agree, but the top talent tend to swarm together to a select group of clubs.

Why does the CFC Website not list anything about their coaches? Where can I find info on them? Does Salem really need two soccer clubs, wouldn't the teams have better players if the talent was not split between 2 clubs?

                              Three words...................EGO, Power & Control

Jim Parent (keizer) is a very vocal person and sometimes rubs people the wrong way. He is passionate about his club and the activities they offer. He [they] do a pretty job at running their fall league in the central valley and with the addition of their indoor complex look for them to compete for dominance in the Salem area. They pull a large number of players from Woodburn and other areas both East and West of I5 heading North.

CFC with their multi-field outdoor complex offers centralized training and the ability to host a fairly good sized tourney. They tend to pull more from the Southern stretch of I5 to Albany.

Both Im sure are secure financially.
