She doesn't have to be an olympian, just have fun. :)
      Good luck.
You are obviously a very dedicated parent, that is a huge advantage for your daughter already. As folks have said above, how passionate is she? When you are at a park, maybe having a picnic, does she invent games like trying to hit trees, or bending the ball around obstacles? When she has her own time, does she spend it with a ball? These are important questions because it can be hard at such a young age to distinguish between a player with a true passion, and a player who is doing it to please mom/dad, and asking usually doesn't work, they don't know the difference.
If she is that passionate, the skills she needs are individual, mostly high touch ball skills. These skills do not require a lot of investment in a particular club philosophy. Get her juggling, have her try to juggle more times every day without dropping the ball, is she at 100,200,1000 touches before she drops it?

I've never hired a private coach for my boys, and they are both on highly performing teams. Truly in America we are obsessed with the lush green field, playing with a super team and coach idea.

If she needs someone to play with experiment with different ages, find some school friends, etc. Obviously I could go on, but the key is be creative. Focus on her individual skills, and save the driving for later you will get plenty of it.

Definitely agree with you on getting touches on the ball. That is truely the most important at that age. The club juggling record at THUSC is 4,200 and is held by a girl who was 8!! That's the kind of dedication you need.

          How successful has she been?

I would suspect that girl has been quite successful. We have several boys in the 5-10,000, and they have been incredibly successful.

She's only a U12 now but is definitley a top player. Her footwork and touch on the ball is incredible.

I agree with many other posters, touches on the ball are the most important thing.
Juggling, passing and shooting against a rebounder or wall. Dribbling and just being creative with the ball.

I believe CFC is probably the biggest club in Salem area; don't know much about the girls side. But if she is as good as you are saying instead of going to another club and making a 2 hour trip (there and back); have her play up at the club you belong to. She will only get better by playing against girls bigger and stronger and with more experience. She will need to raise her game to that level.

Then when she gets into u12-14 look into moving her to a new club if the desire is still there

She does private sessions with an ODP coach from another club. I have seen her out there with him working. She looks like she really has fun with what they are doing. Great to see a kid smiling and enjoying learning the game.

                  Hi,

We have been playing CFC and it's just not challenging enough for her and seems most parent coaches have zero history in soccer, would love to have a coach that at a minimum played soccer, but most are just parents that CFC begged to be a coach since they had nobody else. We have let our daughter try everything to find HER passion and it's Soccer. All she wants to do is soccer 24-7. She plays outside, she plays inside the house and when relaxing at night she plays soccer video games as well, it's her Passion, not us parents. She absolutely lives for Soccer and so I feel fortunate that she found something she loves so much and is good at it. She has tried dancing, music, basketball, baseball, soccer, gymnastics and so on. I do believe it's best to have her try everything to see what she truly loves and it's Soccer. My passion was Basketball growing up and my Husband's was baseball but in no way am I pushing her to do what we loved and she did try those and she LOVES Soccer. I have had so many parents asking me how she got so good and all I can say is it's all her, she has not had good coaching, her parents never played the sport, but she plays with a soccer ball from morning till dark and she's naturally very athletic and super fast so it's all her at this point. But I just want her to get the best training since she loves it so much. We have not played up at this point at CFC and maybe that is what we should look at doing until she gets a little older and then travel to the better Portland clubs, I'm willing to do what is best for her. All I want is the best for my daughter.

Also the girl holding the juggling record is Mya Lopez, is that right? My daughter watches all sorts of youtube videos of Mya playing soccer. That is anothing thing my daughter does is watch tons of youtube videos of soccer and then going outside and trying new things she saw on the videos. So Mya playes for Thusc?

Yes. Mya plays for THUSC Onyx. When she was eight a couple of the news stations locally caught on and did a story about her...She is now 11. My daughter has seen a couple of the videos, seems like her mom has them on there to show family and friends? There are tons of home videos though too.

It sounds like your daughter is very passionate, but please think about the drain aspect travelling brings. my daughter plays on an older team with players like this, and its tough on them, and they are at least 5 years older than her. Her passion might die a bit if she is so burnt-out. You might consider bringing her up on the weekends, and during the week doing your own thing developementally, simple touches on the ball. Unfortunately, the opportunity to play with the developement teams in Oregon Tournaments is gone, but you may catch a few league games/scrimmages?

Previous posters put it best, talk to parents in the developement programs. Talk to DOCS, and the people who run the program for each club. Think long term as well. Does not only the developement, but the move into club soccer U11 appeal to you? You need to be fully informed on EVERY option before you start spending your money in a rough economy. I would suggest making a criteria of the "perfect club" and research each option, and see how many of your criteria match up to each one. Your dughter is young, but what does she want if she's going through all that?

                      Good luck! :)

I believe she has played for Thusc since she was little. I know she played up to U11 when she was U8, U9, and U10. Then played up to U12. She is currently playing her age since Onyx is such a strong team and the U13 team is not. Playing up is definitely something you would want to consider. My son played U10 when he was 8 and it helped a lot!

So far, it sounds like there's an amazing player at FC and THUSC.

We do not have players at either of these clubs, but I have seen both of these players and it might be worth it to do some investigating to check out all these players, talk to their parents/coaches and get an idea as what fits more in line with what you're looking for. I know that it's been suggested to move to CA...while not convenient, you may want to check into some of their player development programs and try to find the one in the OR area that best suits your planned growth. Personally? I'd definitely have her train with the ODP coach who is known for his technical skills - he's really great with the kids. I'm not sure about the THUSC player, but he's definitely training the FC player.

                          Good luck!

Definitely talk to the parents of the Thusc player (#10 on Onyx) and the FC girl and ask their parents what they're doing. Both are tremedous talents and both must be doing some private training as well. Very impressive footwork.

Thusc player is not doing any private training but if the coach is who I think it is, he's a coach at Thusc!

And said girl is not even the best on her team anymore. The game has caught her in terms of speed and strength. Don't get me wrong, she is still good. But she deifnitely does not stand out any longer. My point being, pushing them at 8 and being the best at 8 does not guarantee anything at 11 or 15 years of age, only that you were really good when you were 8.
