Last year my HS daughter went to the LO tournament, and it was the worst tournament we have ever been to! Fields, parking and organization were terrible and you had to pay to park as mentioned before. LO girls teams are really nasty too! Why pay for that? We went a long time ago and it was so terrible our teams have not gone back, but my daughter got asked to help out another team so she decided to go last year, and it was even worse!

WUSC Mt Hood is run fairly well, depends on what level you want to play and who signs up. We've had very good experiences (boys and girls) there as well as at the Eastside Cascade, WSM Beaverton Cup, and we have not done PCU for a long time, but are going again this year.

The Polo Fields are out as one of the venues for the Oswego Nike Cup...the owner is trying to get it back online for soccer, but I heard there's some zoning issues or something with the county. Most tournaments include a parking fee in the tournament fee (see Crossfire), but because the Polo Fields only became available to use a few weeks prior to last year's tournament, LO couldn't include them in the tournament fee. If the guy who owns the fields can sort out the zoning stuff, that could be a great site.

LO Cup does get great competition but as mentioned the fields were not great but in all honesty we're pretty spoiled in this area because of the rec center. I didn't mind my kids playing on the polo fields.

Cascade Cup has drawn mostly B teams in the last few years and hasn't been very competitive.

United Cup does draw some teams from Hawaii, California and Idaho.

FC Cup, it seems to all depend on the year. Sometimes there's competition and sometimes there's not.

Mt. Hood Challenge, again mainly B teams.

If you really want some good competition you're going to have to travel. Try the Mustang Stampede or Crossfire.

          Bend Tournament

Anyone going to the Bend tournament in July? The website says they have some good clubs committed, www.bendpremiercup.com. Certainly a nice place to go in the summer, our team is thinking about it becasue we have lots of families with houses and family in that area.

Our team is looking hard at the Bend tournament. Would you rather spend the weekend hanging out in Bend or hanging out at crappy Powerlines park? That's an easy choice for me!

Central Oregon in mid-July? No brainer. First time tourney so there definitely will be those blips. Good fields and quality teams.

No kidding! As for the blips? We're not too worried because Rush is a pretty well-connected club with plenty of resources across the U.S. so they've probably thought this through before attempting it. (Hey Rush.....have plenty of snow cone vendors!!)

Central Oregon in July is definitely a nice place to be. Our team is talking about doing a rafting trip together when the tournament is over, and I know that some dads are looking forward to some golf. We had to remind them that there are games as well.

I also saw on the hotel page that they do not do rebates like other events do, or require you to stay at specific places, that certainly helps costs as well. We are staying at their host property which has condos for rent, so you can get 6-8 people in per unit. It is a nice change to be able to cook for yourself, and keep costs down. We even have a hot tub on our porch!

LOSC took a huge risk in their efforts to have one central location for most of the games in their tournament and I think, for the most part, they did a pretty darn good job. The location wasn't even available until about two weeks before the tournament began, so it took a marathon effort by a lot of folks to even make it happen at all.

Yes, the fields could/should have been greener, and given another week of access they would've been. Yes, parking was unbelievable, and it was very dusty, but if it'd been 75F that weekend, and there'd been a little light rain, no one would've said much about it. The fields were lazer-level flat, the officiating that I saw was very good, and the potential is there to make that venue and event super in the future (if zoning, etc. is sorted out). Other soccer clubs in the area have tried to get access there for years-- LOSC was the first one to be granted the chance to hold an event there.

I'm going to have to agree that this location has potential! Although it was really dusty, I would like to go again under better venue circumstances. The LO tournament is always a fun one to go to and we appreciated the courteous parents in their club working the traffic with big smiles. Also, the competition seems to be pretty good.

The other local tournaments seemed a bit boring over the past years - so we're planning on getting a little local excitement by trying out the Bend tournament this year. The competition looks pretty good with out of state clubs too. It's summer time and we get so busy with soccer, we look forward to tournaments like this!

Re Bend - Lots of different teams. Should be interesting. As a regular visitor to CO, I encourage teams to have a little fun along the way while in that area. For the most part, that is what this is all about, right?

Re the LO Tourney - loved the idea of the polo grounds and hope it continues. Unlucky! (Can I still use that term after the other thread?) I'm a strong proponent of the single location idea and but for some weather and traffic issues, it would have worked out nicely. I'd hate to see the idea abandoned this early.

                            Clubs at Mt Hood Challenge

I think the Boise Nationals would object to being called "B" teams as would Oregon Rush, Eugene Metro and some of the other clubs sending teams to the Mt Hood Challenge. I don't think clubs would typically send "B" teams from California and Canada. Here is their team list from the website. I don't know, but it looks impressive to me.

That post sounded like it was written by Southside.

Not going to quote that long list of teams, but that all means nothing without age groups as well. I can tell you this, running through that list at my childs age level and it is completely unimpressive. We have seen or played over 85% of those clubs, and many of their A teams are B level.
