Are ODP players the best players on your team?

If your daughter made it one year but not the next, then tryouts were only a small part of it (if any at all). By that time your daughter was a "known quantity" and it was her play on the previous year of ODP that is likely to have factored into the decision more than the tryouts. I don't understand why parents don't realize this.

I guess I didn't phrase it as well as I hoped I had. I just meant that "politics", or "favoritism", only factor in when you're on the bubble. My daughter, whether from tryouts or her previous year's play, was on the bubble.

I think tryouts matter more than you think for all the kids. But it doesn't take away from the fact that if you are a stand out player, politics doesn't enter into the equation.

Team Selection

If you don't think politics and subjectivity matter in team selection (club, high school, ODP, professional) you haven't been around soccer long enough. All you have to do is read this forum to see the political agendas at work. It's called the real world. Sometimes it's fair, sometimes it's not.

To be clear: I said that it might go on but that I haven't witnessed it within ODP. I have witnessed it at the club level.
