I'm new to this, but can you tell me where you got that info? The reason I ask is because my daughter's team is registered for State Cup and is not included on that list. Thanks.

These are the 10 teams that are listed on the OYSA GU-15 as teams in state cup. I used last years finishes and guesses to make my brackets

What team does your daughter play for?

My bad-after I freaked out and called the coach, I learned that we are actually registered for the President's Cup. Guess the Team Manager is always the last to know :) The coach talked with our Club President, and they decided that was a better place for us (and I don't disagree). I'd rather not say which team it is yet, as that info hasn't gone out to the team and parents (an email is on its way), and I'd hate for them to find out by reading it on here, as there will be a few disappointed parents and players.
Thanks for your help, and good luck to all the State Cup teams.

            Eggy,

I think the brackets will look closer to this. Ireland won't be given the #1 seed since they changed clubs, and THUSC Sapphire will be in an opposite bracket from Ireland since they won't have teams from the same club playing one another in a preliminary round. Possession and Rush could get flip flopped not knowing who willl get the #3 seed, since Rush chose not to play in OYSA winter league.

            Bracket A

            FC Portland Marine
            OR Rush
            LOSC Dynamite
            WSM Galaxy
            THUSC Sapphire

            Bracket B

            THUSC Ireland
            FC Willamette Possession
            ESUFC Sunderland
            Corvallis United
            PCU

I assuming that Rush chose to try their luck in the FWL league to try for an automatic bid to regionals instead of playing in the Oregon Winter league? Anyone know how they did?

I was under the impression that a team HAD to play in an Oregon (OYSA) league to be eligible for the State Cup, and was why (IMHO), at least in the younger groups, OYSA went to a split fall/spring league to stop the teams from "doing their own thing" in the spring?

                Fwrl

A team can earn a bid to Regionals through either winning State or Winning FWRL. This is a Region IV rule. Rush, I believe, does not participate in Winter league because they have a hard time practicing in the Winter and this allows them to travel two weekends, versus many weekends over the pass. Also, OYSA went to the Fall/Winter thing because the clubs asked for it....now it is my understanding they do not like it! So hard to please everyone!!

I thought teams HAD to compete in an Oregon league to play in the State Cup, that was my point. Guess I was wrong. Is this true at all age levels? Are you saying that OYSA is OK with teams choosing to play FWRL instead of staying in-state-- do the teams have to financially compensate OYSA then?

I do not know of a single coach that liked the fall/spring format change. Many coaches liked to prepare for State Cup by playing an independent schedule which allowed for basketball, school activities, etc, and stopped the teams playing the same teams again right before State Cup. But maybe there were others who asked for, and liked it.

I know that spring leagues have been a mess in the past with some teams playing "up", some playing a depleted schedule of teams staying in their age group, and some choosing not to participate at all (no $$$ for OYSA then).

Heat-M- I based my brackets on the results of last years State Cup. It shouldn't matter that a team changed clubs. I also had Sapphire in the opposite bracket for the same reason. I like your brackets too. You are always in the know.

FWRL is considered a league that quailifies a team for state cup. This is true for Washington too.

                      U15G State Cup Bracketing

I asked the question before winter league started. The four semi-finalists from last year secure the top four seeds in this years state cup unless a) team changes clubs, or b) they return less then 9 players from last years team. The remaining seeds are determined by how teams fair in Winter League play. (This is only for high school age teams)

I suppose if a team isn't a semi-finalist, and choose to play FWRL they would be seeded at the bottom, which really isn't that big of a deal at least in the U15G age group.

Heat- by that reasoning your brackets make sense. I still don't understand the moving clubs deal. Basically the whole team that won state went together. If Ireland doesn't get the #1 seed because they moved clubs, why do they get the #2? I would think that they would get #4 due to the top 4 get top seeds reasoning. But if the state is going to punish for moving a team then they should get the #10 seed.

I like the brackets you came up with. They look fair enough. Did Rush and Possession return 9 players?

                            Possession

had a lot of changes but kept at least 9 from last year's roster.
