    U14 State Cup bracketing process?

Before we know it, brackets for the State Cup will be out.

Each year it seems to be a crapshoot how the brackets are actually arrived at. There seems to be the sensible spreading out of Gold teams between the groups, based on league position, but then it gets a bit screwy if I remember correctly.

Which teams are eligible to play in State Cup this year-- just the Gold and Silver divisions or are some Div. 1 teams eligible also (if they haven't played Presidents Cup)?

Also, with THUSC's addition to the Gold division there are now 17 teams in the top two groups instead of 16, which would have made for a tidy 4 groups of 4 scenario, with top 2 in each moving on to QF's.. Maybe they add the top 3 D-1 teams to reach 20 and have 5 groups of 4 with group winners plus next best 3 teams move on to QF's?

QF's could be reseeded as 2 groups of 4 teams, with top 2 going to SF's?

OYSA seems to have allowed plenty of time to get this years State Cup games in, with allowances for bad weather.. the above 20 team scenario would have
require 6 games to get to get to SF's.. That would be a fair judge of who deserves to be in the final four I think.

Guesses? C'mon Sodium Guy, you've been preaching how important league play is to seeding for State Cup.. Surely you've done some bracket building by now? :)

OYSA has not said what they are doing yet?

Oh boy here comes the next big issue.

Hope they get this explained soon. The season is going to end soon enough.

Oh sure, I have my own formulas but to try and guess what OYSA is doing, I will have to consult the magic 8-ball. :)

I can't find any results for league play but found the following from last year.

There were 20 teams accepted. Unfortunately, other than the 8 Gold teams and couple Silver, I couldn't tell where the others came from. These teams were broken down into 4 groups: A, B, C & D each consisting of 5 teams. It looked like 2 Gold, 2 Silver & one 'other' team. The top teams per bracket were seeded according to finish in league play. A1, B1, C1, D1 were the top 4 teams from gold bracket. A2, B2, C2, D2 were seeded by positions 5 through 8 in gold bracket. A3, B3, C3, D3 were top 4 league finishers in silver bracket. And the next 4 in silver bracket occupied the 4th spot. Looked like position number 5 was seeded from D1 & maybe classic. I couldn't recognize a lot of the names. Top 2 from each bracket advanced to QF's, winners to SF's and then finals.

I did notice at the top of every bracket it stated; "Advancing to Next Round: top 2 team(s) from each Bracket and 0 Wildcards." the numbers 2 & 0 were red meaning they are variable.

With an odd number in Gold maybe they open it up to another bracket or make each bracket 6 teams. But this would add 20 games to the preliminary week.

My thoughts would be leave it at 20 teams. 17 from Gold & Silver and only take the top 3 D-1. Nothing would then change from last year with the exception of 1 group having 3 gold teams instead of 2. That way the Gold teams may actually have to PLAY a couple games to advance to second weekend.

Just my thoughts. Anyone else? Maybe a deck of cards, high card wins? LOL!

Any mention of the U14 State Cup bracketing yet? I'm heading over to OYSA site now but thought I would throw this out in case anyone had any insight.
