Before we know it, brackets for the State Cup will be out.
Each year it seems to be a crapshoot how the brackets are actually arrived at. There seems to be the sensible spreading out of Gold teams between the groups, based on league position, but then it gets a bit screwy if I remember correctly.
Which teams are eligible to play in State Cup this year-- just the Gold and Silver divisions or are some Div. 1 teams eligible also (if they haven't played Presidents Cup)?
Also, with THUSC's addition to the Gold division there are now 17 teams in the top two groups instead of 16, which would have made for a tidy 4 groups of 4 scenario, with top 2 in each moving on to QF's.. Maybe they add the top 3 D-1 teams to reach 20 and have 5 groups of 4 with group winners plus next best 3 teams move on to QF's?
QF's could be reseeded as 2 groups of 4 teams, with top 2 going to SF's?
OYSA seems to have allowed plenty of time to get this years State Cup games in, with allowances for bad weather.. the above 20 team scenario would have
require 6 games to get to get to SF's.. That would be a fair judge of who deserves to be in the final four I think.
Guesses? C'mon Sodium Guy, you've been preaching how important league play is to seeding for State Cup.. Surely you've done some bracket building by now? :)
