2009 Oregon Soccer Tournaments. Good or Bad?

OK, here's how this is going to work. When you post a reply to this thread put the tournament name in the "Title:" text box above the post. Don't "Quote" any posts or it will throw it off. All I'm looking for are the 'GOOD' points of a tournament and/or the 'BAD' points of a tournament. This isn't a discussion, it is just facts.

On December 1st I will take all 'Good' and 'Bad' points and send them to the corresponding clubs so they can have a point of reference for next year.

This is not a bitch session. I don't care if Johnny or Julie twisted their ankle. Just tell me the field was full of potholes! Tell me the parking sucked at Oswego Cup or the officiating was pathetic at OPL. Got it? Good!

We can actually do some good here on the forum and make an impact if this is taken seriously.

Referees not showing to games. Since refs schedule themselves on other site (nothing to do with the club), suggest tourney schedules refs. They would have access to phone numbers, and know if they have a full crew or not.

Semi and final games have half hour gap between next games. Games were too close together if there was a conflict of overtime/PK's, throwing games off. This was also a problem with refs scheduling so many games and being late to the next game if they had to travel.

I understand the time they picked for having the tournaments, but if they do pick this time of month they need to schedule ALL games on turf. Having a game canceled due to thunder/lightning I can deal with. Young kids love to play in mud, but when the ball is dead in a large puddle on the field it does not make it fun to watch an hour of that.

More communication on a timely manner for changes made to a schedule.

Do not schedule a team with more than 2 games a day. If you do schedule a team with 2 games in one day keep them at the same field at least.

Trophies/awards could have been better. Cheap.
When awarding out at least have a tournament representitive there to make a quick speach if for anything at the younger ages. If the older ages do not care, at least be there to hand them off (shows you at least took the time to care).

Need to have all voulunteers clearly visible so parents, coaches, players or refs can see you and approach you if needed. Coaches and parents had to approach the referees to find the field marshall for questions.

Horrible officiating. Many game outcomes were decided by the referees and the bad calls.

Schedules were awful. Times, locations not logical. Games too close together and not enough time to get to next location. Scores not updated in a timely manner.

Awards were so cheap with no engraving to show which tourney it was won at. No one at the tent to hand out awards.

Grass fields saturated in water and mud. No visible lines, no ball movement. Cancel games and play on turf.

Chinook Cup

Horrible scheduling. Ten to 15 schedule changes per team, many on the day of the games.

Awful communication with team contacts. No one knew what to do, where to go, etc. Could not get ahold of anyone to get information.

Portland Cup

Good schedules. Easy to read, very clear where to be and when.

Beautiful fields, limted to two great locations (Hillsboro High School and Liberty High School)

Updates scores in a timely manner.

Many people available to answer questions.

Beaverton Cup

Has good competiton.

Mostly good fields.

Schedules are updated in a timely manner.

Good awards.

Oswego Nike Cup

The fields were poor quality. Location site, field surface, parking issues, no shade for anyone, anywhere.

No competition.
Schedules were hard to follow. Field names not listed well and it was confusing.

Pro: Central location

Cons: Poor fields - needed more water, was like playing on hard dirt
Bad parking plan
- entrance/exit flow was a mess (in some cases 30 minutes waiting to leave). Consider staggering games so not all games start/stop at same time.
- no clear direction regarding where to park based on field location. Volunteer sent me to a lot very far from field. Driving around I found a place right next to field.
- Added insult to injury was charging for bad parking.

professional coach that will be the OCSC Academy Director – Joey Leonetti. Joey is a local resident of Oregon
City and has a long soccer background that will bring a high caliber soccer expertise to the academy.
• 4 weeks starting on Jan. 11 through February 4

• Focusing on skill development and touches on the ball

OCSC Futsal League
Games will be 4v4 with small goals, unlimited substitution on the fly, no goalkeepers or coaches. Players are
encouraged to put teams together and run the teams themselves. Field monitor will be onsite.
• Games will consist of two 25 minute halves
• Minimum of 8 games per session
• T-shirts for every player
• Max. of 8 players per team
• U10-U16 Age Groups
• 4 weeks starting Feb. 2 through March 2
• Games* held on Tuesday & Thursday evenings 5pm-8pm
• $350.00 per team

Be sure to wear appropriate clothing - weather may be cold. Shin guards are required, cleats/or turf shoes and
