    State Cup

Alright, the two-day post-season hiatus is over, we turn our attention to State Cup. Sure, the schedules aren't up yet, but you know who you're playing. Who will move into the Elite 8?

I always cast a wary eye on the teams that finished 1-2 in the lower divisions. It appears in Bracket 1 like either Atletica or Dynamite will move up, but what about Rush Nike? They seemed miscast in Classic. Are they poised for an upset?

I also notice that OSA Milan did very well in Division 1. They have been a first division team in the past. Do they have a surprise in store for someone?

Do tell about Oregon Rush Nike. I understand that they are the former Deschutes Football Academy and see that they dominated the Classic division, but know little else.

        Rush-Nike
        U11 Div 1
        U12 Div 2
        U13 Classic

Storm has 2 girls from Rush, I only know what I've been told and that is only one side of the story. So I really don't think I should say anything else.

Classic 1 to beating a couple of Silver teams who finished in the upper half of the division is quite a long shot. I know WUSC Rapids had a nice run last year, but Classic 1 to the Quarterfinals of the State Cup? Were they really placed that out of proportion??? I can see falling a level below where you should have been, but ... WOW!

I'm goin with Southside, Bend, FC Portland, Eastside, FC Williamette, Energy, Ginga, and my gut is telling me Atletica. It could be quite a battle between Atletica and LO though for that 2nd slot in the 1st bracket. I'm all for the underdog and Cinderella teams, but I just can't see OR Nike Rush making that large of a leap.

Bad news from the doctor today. Shu has been playing through the pain for quite some time now. X-rays of her ankle looked good and the ligaments felt good, but the MRI revealed a deep bone bruice (which would not keep her from playing) and a damaged growth plate in her ankle. The doc wants her to sit out for probably 6-8 weeks. He doesn't want her doing any running and she may even go on crutches due to pain simply while she walks. She's one tough cookie and wants to continue playing, but I think we gotta listen to the doc on this one. They're not sure if the damage is fixable or it is what it is. I guess only time will tell.

We lost another girl last weekend for roughly the same time frame with an achilles problem so the girls are kind of hurting right now. We only had 14 girls to begin with so that doesn't leave but one sub.

                  Sigh

That is to bad, I'll pray she will be ok. Need to let them heel while they are young or they will have problems all their live and soccer isn't that important when you look at it that way. It just might make all the girls step up and pull it through. Let us know how it goes.

                      Shu,

I'm really sorry to hear this news. If my memory serves me right, this happened back in the summer. She is definitely one tough cookie to play with that kind of pain. The important thing is to stay off it, and get it back to 100%. Growth plate injuries can be really scary, and you don't want to risk her long term health over a couple of soccer games, state cup or not. The girls will hopefully step up and take care of business.

Tell her Madison wishes her well.

SD - UGH, UGH, and TRIPLE UGH! I guess the good news is that the doctor diagnosed it and with rest she will be okay. FWIW, I think that Energy will be fine. Nonetheless, that is really a tough break for your DD. We will look forward to seeing her in the Spring.

Sorry to hear it Shu. Glad she was diagnosed now. Energy should be okay through the early rounds and you will have all the girls back by spring.
