This Women's World Cup is the first time I have watched highlights/games and been genuinely impressed with some of the play. The quality takes a sharp nosedive as you go down rosters and through the lower seeded teams, but it does seem to be improving overall.

Football has over a million kids that play high school\
Basketball...over 500,000
Baseball is close to 500,000
Soccer is far behind that.
As the person you quoted mentioned...Soccer also falls far behind the major sports in the US...NFL is far and away the largest sport...MLB has been losing ground over the last decade and the NBA is the NBA.
People care about women's soccer because that have female children that they give a **** about and being good parents, are willing to take an interest in their children's interest so they can have a better connection.
I have a daughter, we watch the both World Cups, we also try to go to games when they are local. I have two sons who play football and baseball...We watch MLB and the NFL (as well as college for both). We go to games to see it live. In the end, it is about being a good parent and actually supporting all your children.
Most of the comments are not directed at you as you only posted a statistic, but the general tone of this thread from many of these "men" who think showing masculinity is degrading a women's sport. Cool, I mean they are still supporting a young man who decided to go into a sport that is of little significance in the US and a commend them a little bit for at least doing that much.

when you have kids, you get into things you never would have liked before, just because your kids do it. this is true.
i am all for women's athletics. what i don't get is how americans can love women's soccer and not like the men's version. it's the same thing (i would say men's is better), but whatever, close to the same thing. why is it awesome for girls and yet not american and "niche" for boys. it's pretty much the same damn sport. is it just because the women win? how can so many americans find women's soccer this beautiful sport and not have spasms of joy watching champions league?

Two - People died for that and still are.
Three - Anyone wearing the uniform is representing the United States.
Four - Not showing respect for what the American Flag represents is not showing respect to the uniform she is wearing, the always evolving democracy that our nation has, and those who died so she could be on that field living a very spoiled life.
As for always protesting everything Trump, she can be anti-Trump fine but seriously she is acting like a Nazi by trying to dehumanize the man and state she hates everything he has done in office while Trump has done some amazing things like getting people, mainly minorities, out of jail that should not be in prison.
Look it up.
But then again that is about freedom and guess not everyone on the USA Women's team respects freedom.
