Wonder where UF dad is after ranting all year about his last kid not getting in. Seems like most of the kids who should have gotten in are getting in. My D hasn't heard any "I can't believe so and so didn't get in" type stores.

37,000 out of 57,000 freshman summer/fall 2019 applicants didn't get accepted into FSU. Wonder how many applied to UF and did not get in?

UCF is largest college in nation so they just open their doors to fill the seats with exception of two departments that have great requirements to get in.
UCF will enroll more freshman than UF and FSU enrolls together. All of the Florida students UCF enrolls will be Bright Futures recipients.

Most of these Florida seniors will apply to the Big Four Public Universities in Florida just to see if they can get in. There isn't room for the top level Bright Futures students in the combined freshmen class of UF, FSU, UCF and USF. The students need to apply to other colleges in Florida too as safety nets. Many students with over 4.0, 1400, high school Latin takers hoping to attend medical school don't get into UF or FSU. More students are staying in Florida to use the Bright Futures Academic Scholarship according to the article below.

Keep in mind FSU expects to actually enroll about 6,200 and UF about 6,500 for the summer fall 2019 freshman class. They won’t all be from Florida.

Only about 1/5 or 20% of the 52,179 top level 2019 Bright Futures recipients will attend UF/FSU, so 4/5 or 80% are attending other colleges.

Only about one-tenth of Florida HS seniors who earned the top level Academic Scholars Bright Futures award (52,000) will attend UF in the fall of 2019.

Instead of looking at statistics around then number of applying and not getting in, you should spend time looking at High School districts and individual High Schools to see why some schools seem to get the lions share of their seniors in.

Admittedly this is an anecdotal statement but ALL my daughters friends in her class got in to UF as did the majority of her class who applied. We were watching TV in the living room and she read off all the names for he class who were posting on social media. Yeah, there were kids who didn't but they were no surprise apparently.

Perhaps the disparity issue is with Florida High School and not Florida Colleges.

And 30% of those who do play will quite or get cut in the first year. We are all hamsters on a spinning wheel with DOC's standing by collecting the money that falls out of our pockets.

Colleges know what high schools do a good job preparing kids for higher learning and which don't.

Well duh but apparently plenty of parents don't. How many High Schools had a UF rep come in for a visit? No? You should be asking your principle why.

And you should learn the difference between principle and principal...Duh!

UF is the most expensive out of state tuition among them. They grab as many out of state freshman as they can. That is why you only get 750 white boys being admitted as Freshman from in state each year.

You are saying UF took over 100 from your one high school? Really...the majority who applied?
